About the role

Basketball WA is seeking an experienced and passionate Wheelchair Basketball Lead to drive the growth, development, and performance of wheelchair basketball across Western Australia. Reporting to the Head of Programs – Performance and Pathways, this strategic leadership role will be responsible for developing and implementing Basketball WA's wheelchair basketball strategy while leading athlete, coach, and program development initiatives.

Working closely with WAIS, Basketball Australia, affiliated associations, disability organisations, clubs, coaches, athletes, and key stakeholders, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening participation pathways from grassroots through to high performance.



You will support the ongoing success of Basketball WA's representative wheelchair basketball programs, including the Black Ducks and Perth Wheelcats, while fostering strong partnerships across metropolitan and regional Western Australia.

Based at Bendat Basketball Centre in Floreat, this role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on one of Australia's most respected wheelchair basketball programs.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development and implementation of Basketball WA's Wheelchair Basketball Strategy and associated operational plans.

- Develop and deliver sustainable athlete, coach, and program development initiatives that support participation and high-performance pathways.

- Build strong relationships with affiliated associations, WAIS, Basketball Australia, disability organisations, clubs, and other key stakeholders to strengthen the wheelchair basketball ecosystem.

- Support the ongoing development and success of Basketball WA representative wheelchair basketball programs, including the Black Ducks and Perth Wheelcats.

- Work collaboratively with metropolitan and regional associations to grow participation opportunities and sustainable competition structures across Western Australia.





- Promote classification awareness and develop stakeholder capability to support athlete identification and development.

- Contribute to governance, planning, budgeting, reporting, and risk management within the Performance and Pathways department.

- Represent Basketball WA professionally while fostering an inclusive, team-oriented, and high-performing culture.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the Australian wheelchair basketball landscape and a genuine passion for growing inclusive participation and performance pathways.

You will bring demonstrated leadership experience within a development or high-performance sporting environment, along with exceptional relationship-building skills and the ability to influence and collaborate across a diverse range of stakeholders.

You will be an organised, proactive, and strategic thinker who can work independently while managing multiple priorities. Your ability to develop sustainable programs, identify opportunities for growth, and inspire athletes, coaches, and partners will be key to your success.

Experience working within disability sport, or inclusive sporting environments will be highly regarded, along with a commitment to creating meaningful participation opportunities for athletes across Western Australia.
