About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Molecular Diagnostics Scientist to help advance biosecurity surveillance and diagnostic capability through the application of cutting‑edge molecular technologies. In this role, you will investigate and implement environmental DNA (eDNA), molecular diagnostics and high‑throughput sequencing (HTS) approaches to improve the detection and identification of pest and disease threats across aquatic, animal and plant biosecurity systems.
Working at the intersection of research, diagnostics and surveillance, you will provide scientific leadership and oversight of existing molecular workflows while contributing to the development, validation and continuous improvement of innovative diagnostic methods. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality scientific outcomes that strengthen biosecurity preparedness and response capabilities.
About You
As our ideal candidate, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience applying molecular diagnostics, eDNA and high‑throughput sequencing technologies within animal, plant or environmental settings.
- Strong expertise in quantitative PCR and sequencing platforms, particularly Illumina and Oxford Nanopore, including data analysis, interpretation and troubleshooting.
- Experience developing, validating and improving laboratory workflows, molecular diagnostic methods and automated laboratory processes.
- Proven ability to contribute to research and diagnostic projects, including experimental design, data analysis, reporting and implementation of improved methods.
- A commitment to scientific excellence, quality assurance, continuous improvement and cooperative stakeholder engagement.
Essential Criteria
- Degree qualification in Environmental Science, Agricultural Science, Veterinary Science, Science or a related field.
