About the role:
The Compliance and Risk Senior Officer contributes to the strength, safety and regulatory readiness of Barunga Village by supporting effective compliance, risk, emergency management, business continuity and organisational assurance systems. This part time role aims to strengthen organisational accountability by supporting the identification, documentation, monitoring, follow-up and escalation of risks, compliance obligations, corrective actions and emerging issues. Through practical guidance, reporting and action tracking, the role supports managers and staff to embed a proactive compliance and risk culture into day-to-day operations, helping Barunga Village deliver safe, compliant and person-centred services.
Responsibilities of the role:
The Compliance and Risk Senior Officer works across Barunga Village to coordinate and monitor compliance and risk systems, including risk registers, compliance registers, action plans, incident and hazard follow-up, emergency management, business continuity, psychosocial risk documentation and related reporting. The role operates semi-autonomously within established frameworks, applying judgement to identify gaps, trends and unresolved risks, follow up responsible officers, support preparation of reports and escalate significant matters to the Director of Operational Services.
Compliance management
- Support the implementation, monitoring and ongoing review of Barunga Village’s compliance framework in accordance with organisational requirements, legislative obligations and regulatory expectations.
- Maintain and monitor organisational compliance registers, compliance calendars, evidence records and action plans to support timely completion of compliance obligations.
- Apply judgement to identify compliance gaps, overdue actions, emerging issues and areas of potential organisational exposure, escalating significant or unresolved matters to the Director of Operational Services.
- Provide guidance to managers and responsible officers regarding compliance requirements, evidence collection, action tracking and completion of compliance-related responsibilities.
- Monitor changes to relevant legislation, standards, regulatory requirements and organisational obligations, and prepare summaries or recommendations regarding potential operational impacts.
- Coordinate and support the preparation of evidence for internal reviews, external audits, accreditation activities, regulatory assessments and other assurance processes.
- Monitor organisational compliance with aged care requirements, retirement village obligations, organisational policies, contractual requirements and relevant committee reporting requirements.
- Support preparation of compliance summaries, reports, dashboards and updates for the Director of Operational Services and relevant committees.
Risk management
- Support the implementation and ongoing operation of Barunga Village’s risk management framework within agreed organisational systems and processes.
- Maintain the organisational Risk Register and associated risk documentation, ensuring risks, controls, treatments, owners, review dates and actions are recorded accurately.
- Work with managers and risk owners to identify, assess, document, treat, monitor and review operational and organisational risks.
- Apply discretion and judgement to identify risk trends, emerging concerns, incomplete controls, overdue actions or matters requiring escalation.
- Monitor risk treatment plans and corrective actions, following up responsible officers and escalating delays, gaps or significant risks to the Director of Operational Services.
- Coordinate risk reviews, workshops, consultations and staff engagement activities to strengthen risk awareness, ownership and accountability.
- Analyse risk trends, incidents, hazards, audit findings, complaints, feedback and other organisational data to identify areas requiring attention.
- Prepare risk reports, summaries and supporting documentation for the Director of Operational Services as required.
- Promote a proactive and constructive risk culture where risks are openly identified, discussed, escalated and addressed.
Incident, hazard and corrective action monitoring
- Monitor incident, hazard and near miss reporting processes where they relate to organisational risk, compliance, WHS, psychosocial risk or assurance frameworks.
- Review incident and hazard information to identify trends, recurring issues, incomplete actions, escalation requirements and potential compliance or safety risks.
- Follow up corrective actions with responsible managers to support timely completion and appropriate evidence of closure.
- Apply judgement to identify incidents, hazards or corrective actions that may require escalation.
- Support managers to understand documentation, investigation, corrective action and escalation requirements in accordance with organisational policies and legislative obligations.
Psychosocial risk
- Coordinate psychosocial risk documentation, action plans and reporting processes in collaboration with the Director of Operational Services, People and Culture Manager, managers and relevant stakeholders.
- Support consultation, risk assessment, monitoring and follow-up processes relating to psychosocial hazards, where required.
- Review psychosocial risk information, incident trends and action plans to identify emerging risks, overdue actions or matters requiring escalation.
- Escalate identified psychosocial risks, trends, significant concerns or unresolved actions to the Director of Operational Services and People and Culture Manager as appropriate.
- This role does not replace the responsibilities of managers or the People and Culture function in relation to individual employee matters, performance management, workplace investigations, workers compensation or Return to Work processes.
Emergency management and business continuity
- Support the review, maintenance and monitoring of Barunga Village’s Emergency Management and Business Continuity Plans.
- Monitor emergency preparedness activities, including scheduled reviews, drills, testing activities, corrective actions, documentation and evidence records.
- Work with responsible managers to ensure actions arising from emergency management reviews, exercises, incidents or audits are completed and appropriately documented.
- Identify gaps, overdue actions or emerging risks relating to emergency management and business continuity, escalating significant matters to the Director of Operational Services.
- Maintain records and evidence of emergency management and business continuity activities.
- Prepare reports and updates on emergency management and business continuity readiness as required.
Audit, monitoring and continuous improvement
- Assist with coordinating internal compliance audits, risk reviews and risk-related monitoring activities within agreed organisational frameworks.
- Record, track and follow up audit findings, corrective actions and improvement opportunities to support timely completion.
- Review and collate information from audit outcomes, risk reviews, feedback, incidents, complaints and compliance monitoring data to identify trends, gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with the Quality Officer to ensure risk and compliance information informs quality improvement activities, organisational learning and regulatory readiness.
- Support preparation for accreditation, regulatory assessment and other external review processes by coordinating evidence, documentation, action tracking and responsible officer follow-up.
- Escalate significant compliance gaps, repeated non-compliance, overdue corrective actions or matters requiring executive attention to the Director of Operational Services.
Reporting and committee support
- Prepare reports, dashboards, summaries, papers and action updates relating to compliance, risk, emergency management, business continuity, psychosocial risk and corrective action monitoring.
- Coordinate agenda preparation, documentation and follow-up actions for relevant risk and compliance committees, as required.
- Track committee actions, follow up responsible officers and escalate overdue, unresolved or high-risk matters appropriately.
- Maintain accurate records of risk, compliance and committee-related activities.
- Support the Director of Operational Services with preparation of reports for the Risk Committee, Executive Team, CEO and Board.
- Collate and report trends, emerging issues and improvement opportunities arising from committee discussions, risk reviews, incident data, audits and compliance monitoring.
Stakeholder support and capability building
- Provide practical guidance and support to managers and staff in relation to compliance and risk processes.
- Assist with developing and delivering risk and compliance information, resources and training to staff.
- Work collaboratively with operational, clinical, quality and corporate teams to embed compliance and risk processes into everyday practice.
- Support managers to build confidence and consistency in identifying, documenting and escalating risks and compliance matters.
- Promote Barunga Village’s values and support a positive, accountable and improvement-focused culture.

Director of Operational Services.
