About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join a high profile Azure data warehouse migration and modernisation programme. This is a hands on delivery role focused on designing, building and optimising enterprise data solutions using Microsoft Azure, Synapse and dbt.

You will play a key role in delivering complex data models, supporting migration activities, ensuring data quality and providing technical leadership to a team of engineers throughout the engagement.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop and optimise scalable data pipelines using dbt, SQL and Azure Synapse.
- Lead the migration of data warehouse assets from legacy platforms into Microsoft Azure.
- Develop complex dimensional and analytical data models to support reporting and business intelligence.
- Build, maintain and optimise dbt models, testing frameworks and deployment processes.
- Perform data validation, reconciliation and quality assurance to ensure accuracy throughout migration activities.
- Investigate and resolve data defects, performance issues and transformation challenges.
- Work closely with architects, business stakeholders and delivery teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to other Data Engineers.
- Drive engineering best practice, code quality, documentation and delivery standards.





Essential Skills & Experience

- Extensive commercial experience as a Data Engineer delivering enterprise data warehouse solutions.
- Strong hands on experience with dbt, including complex modelling and transformations.
- Advanced SQL development and performance tuning skills.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Azure, particularly Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Proven experience delivering large scale data warehouse migration programmes.
- Strong understanding of dimensional modelling, ELT/ETL design and modern data warehousing principles.
- Experience with data reconciliation, testing strategies, defect analysis and remediation.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex data issues across multiple systems.
- Excellent stakeholder communication and collaboration skills.

Desirable Experience

- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- Exposure to Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps or CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience implementing automated testing and data quality frameworks within dbt.
- Microsoft Azure certifications.
