TFH Hire Services supplies temporary fencing, portable toilets, and site equipment for Construction, Events and Civil projects throughout Far North Queensland. We are on the hunt for an experienced Second in Charge / Supervisor to join our Cairns team. Someone who is motivated and wants to take advantage of the opportunities that come with an expanding business.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being out in the yard, keeping things moving and leading by example. You'll be working alongside the team every day, making sure our equipment is prepared, that our drivers are set up for success and our customers receive the outstanding service TFH Hire is known for.
While this is not an office-based management role it does combine hands-on yard work with office responsibilities. You will need to be confident talking with customers, coordinating logistics, managing documentation and using a computer to keep operations running efficiently.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the day-to-day activities of the yard while working alongside the team.
- Maintain and organise portable toilets, temporary fencing and hire equipment.
- Coordinate the loading and unloading of trucks.
- Ensure deliveries, collections and servicing are completed efficiently.
- Carry out daily inspections of trucks, forklifts and equipment.
- Keep the yard protected, organised and operating efficiently.
- Basic computer tasks including uploading jobs, printing delivery documents, scanning paperwork and completing online site inductions.
- Working closely with customers,
drivers and team members to solve problems and keep operations running smoothly.
About You
We are looking for someone with proven experience who can confidently step into a leadership role. Ideally, you will have:
- Experience supervising and motivating a small team in transport, hire, construction, logistics or a similar industry.
- Experience operating forklifts and safely loading and unloading trucks.
- A proven background driving MR or larger trucks and working with vehicles and equipment.
- Experience coordinating drivers, deliveries and daily workloads.
- Confidence communicating professionally with customers, suppliers and staff.
- Experience planning workloads, prioritising tasks and keeping operations running efficiently.
- Experience inspecting and maintaining trucks, forklifts and hire equipment.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, emails, and job management systems.
Essential Requirements
- Forklift Licence (essential)
- MR Manual Licence (essential)
- Current Australian Driver Licence
- Full Australian working rights
- White Card (or willingness to obtain)
