We're seeking a Senior Java Developer to join a federal department, working across the full stack from Oracle-backed data models to React front ends, and providing technical advice to our Applications Director and CIO. What you'll be doing: You'll develop enterprise-grade software using Java and Oracle technologies, and build and maintain web-based UI with ReactJS, CSS and HTML. You'll design data models, translate them into physical Oracle database implementations, and handle CRUD operations through Java ORM frameworks.

You'll produce and maintain detailed design artefacts and technical specifications, and work with RESTful OpenAPI specs, SOAP WSDLs and XML schemas. You'll develop and maintain DevOps workflows using Jenkins, Git, Maven and Ant, and manage Nexus software releases following established processes. You'll provide advice and support to our Applications Director and CIO, and take part in an on-call roster (escalations are rare — historically about once a year).

What we're looking for

At least 8 years of Java experience, including enterprise design patterns, JPA and Hibernate ORM (JEE and reactive programming experience an advantage)

Java web service development — SOAP and REST APIs, OpenAPI/XSD schemas, XML/JSON, Spring/Spring Boot

Unix/Linux and Bash proficiency





Experience with Maven lifecycle management, continuous integration, and unit/system integration testing

Solid database experience including data modelling and stored procedures (Oracle preferred)

AWS development experience (EC2, Lambdas, API Gateway, S3/SQS, CloudFormation)

Willingness to participate in a 24x7 on-call roster

Excellent verbal and written communication skills A solid commitment to sound software engineering processes, with a proven ability to write robust, maintainable code and document technical processes

Experience implementing and maintaining automated testing, and contributing to continuous improvement of team procedures and documentation

Must be Ok to be on call 24/7/365 in conjunction with the team. Eligibility:
