Position Overview
Reporting to the Head of Property, you will lead portfolio management, investment research, transaction execution, and market engagement activities across the Property portfolio.
The role also involves coaching and developing team members, exemplifying VFMC’s values and Leadership Standards, and enhancing the team’s investment processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and refine Property portfolio strategy, ensuring alignment with client objectives, VFMC’s investment strategy, and broader portfolio priorities;
- Lead, manage and develop a high-performing property team, including setting clear objectives, providing regular coaching and feedback, and building individual and team capability;
- Foster a collaborative, accountable and inclusive team culture, championing VFMC’s values and Leadership Standards and supporting the professional growth of team members;
- Support whole-of-portfolio decision-making by considering diversification, liquidity, risk, return, and implementation impacts;
- Identify risks, opportunities, and market trends, translating insights into actionable investment recommendations;
- Oversee investment outcomes across assigned property assets, funds, mandates, club investments and direct assets, with accountability for performance, risk, compliance, valuations, operational matters and client objectives;
- Represent VFMC on investment committees, advisory boards and external industry forums, strengthening the organisation's reputation, investment profile and stakeholder relationships;
- Maintain a robust investment governance framework, ensuring disciplined processes, clear documentation, effective decision-making, and compliance with VFMC requirements;
- Lead engagement with external managers, investment partners, advisers, and industry participants to support investment opportunities, research, monitoring, and relationship management;
- Partner with Client Services and internal stakeholders to deliver client reporting, communications, and Property portfolio updates;
- Present complex investment matters clearly and effectively to clients, stakeholders, governance forums, and external partners.
Knowledge and Experience
- 10–15+ years of relevant investment experience, including significant exposure to the property sector;
- Demonstrated success in institutional property investing, with experience across portfolio management,
investment management, transactions, valuations, due diligence, mandate oversight, or fund management;
- Proven ability to source, evaluate, and execute complex investment opportunities, collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders, external managers, advisers, and governance bodies;
- Experience supporting portfolio strategy, construction, monitoring, and performance management within an institutional investment environment;
- Appropriate expertise, experience, and qualified judgement to represent VFMC on investment committees, advisory boards, investor review committees, or similar governance forums;
- Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience developing teams, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing culture;
- Tertiary qualification in property, commerce, economics, accounting, finance or a related discipline; relevant postgraduate qualifications are highly regarded;
- Strong analytical and financial modelling skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency and the ability to assess investment models to support sound investment decisions.
