MCG Quantity Surveyors is seeking an experienced and qualified Senior Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join our growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled professional with strong Australian estimating experience who is confident managing projects, preparing detailed cost estimates and providing accurate, commercially focused advice.
About the role
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and reports across a diverse range of construction projects. You will work closely with clients, consultants and internal team members while supporting the development of less-experienced staff.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Preparing detailed construction cost estimates, cost plans and feasibility assessments
- Reviewing architectural drawings, specifications and other project documentation
- Preparing elemental and trade-based estimates
- Providing cost advice throughout the design and construction process
- Undertaking tender assessments and preparing tender documentation
- Monitoring project costs, variations and progress claims
- Identifying potential cost risks and providing practical recommendations
- Communicating professionally with clients, builders, architects and other stakeholders
- Managing multiple projects and priorities while meeting required deadlines
- Reviewing the work of junior team members and providing guidance and mentoring
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of estimating processes, templates and systems
About you
To be successful in this position, you will have:
- A recognised tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline
- A minimum of five years’ relevant quantity surveying and estimating experience, with approximately 5–10 years preferred
- Demonstrated estimating experience within the Australian construction industry
- Strong knowledge of Australian construction methods, materials, terminology and market rates
- Experience preparing detailed estimates and cost plans across different stages of a project
- The ability to interpret architectural, structural and services drawings
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency with relevant estimating software and Microsoft Office
- Full Australian working rights
Skilled membership with the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, or eligibility for membership, will be highly regarded.
