Join the Luma team, one of Australia's largest not-for-profit organisations specialising in women's health and wellbeing. Our counselling services support women experiencing mental health challenges by creating a safe, supportive environment where they can explore their experiences, build resilience, and work toward meaningful change. This is a full-time role, fixed term to May 2027.
As a Mental Health Counsellor, you will provide trauma-informed counselling to women and their families, delivering evidence-based interventions that support recovery and wellbeing. You'll work collaboratively with clients, internal services, and external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes while also developing and facilitating therapeutic and psychoeducational groups.
What you’ll do
- Manage a counselling caseload: Provide trauma-informed counselling to women experiencing mental health concerns, including those with complex and co-occurring presentations.
- Conduct assessments and treatment planning: Complete comprehensive assessments, utilise relevant information and data, and develop tailored treatment plans that reflect each client's unique needs and circumstances.
- Support goal-focused counselling: Work collaboratively with clients to develop meaningful treatment goals and openly discuss how counselling interventions will support progress toward these goals.
- Build strong therapeutic relationships: Establish and maintain effective therapeutic alliances, responding openly and professionally to reluctance, resistance, and barriers to engagement throughout the counselling process.

About you/Selection Criteria:
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, such as Mental Health, Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or equivalent.
- Current registration with a relevant qualified body (e.g. AHPRA, Australian Counselling Association (ACA), or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA)). Student registrations will also be considered.
- Demonstrated experience providing counselling interventions for clients experiencing mental health concerns, including complex and co-occurring presentations.
- Knowledge of contemporary evidence-based counselling approaches and recovery-oriented practice.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, advocacy, and collaboration skills, with a commitment to client-centred and trauma-informed practice.
