The Opportunity

NCVER is seeking a future focused Director who will contribute to the effective governance of a purpose-led national organisation, owned by the Federal, State & Territory Skills Ministers.

The company is seeking an independent Director with deep experience in digital/data governance, AI or cyber security, who will exercise judgement, strategic insight, curiosity and courage, to positively support and challenge management, to drive the organisation’s success.

What You'll Bring

To strengthen the Board’s collective capability, the successful candidate will bring senior-level experience in at least one of the following areas:

- Experience with data stewardship, data quality, data privacy, data access and sharing, data ethics, information governance, AI governance, data risk or public-interest data custodianship.

- Experience governing, leading or advising on digital data products, analytics platforms, public-facing information products, data visualisation services, data product strategy, or user-centred data services.

- Experience governing the responsible use of artificial intelligence, including AI strategy, ethical and regulatory considerations, transparency,



assurance and the opportunities and risks of AI-enabled data products or services.

- Experience overseeing cyber strategy, cyber resilience, cyber risk, incident preparedness, third-party technology risk, security governance, or assurance in a complex organisation.

Candidates are also expected to have:

- Understanding of, or interest in, public policy, education, vocational education and training, research, statistics or public sector data.

- Strong governance judgement and an understanding of director duties.

- Ability to contribute constructively to strategy, performance and risk oversight.

- Financial literacy sufficient to understand Board papers and financial information.

- Commitment to NCVER’s public purpose, independence, stakeholder trust and not-for-profit context.

- Prior experience as a company director and understanding of Director duties will be well-regarded.

NCVER Board Directors receive a sitting fee for each meeting attended, as determined by Company Members. Travel and other expenses are covered by the company.
