About the role

Studio Hair by Kay & Bel is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Apprentice Hairdresser (1st Year) to join our team in Higgins, ACT. This is a full-time apprenticeship position that offers an exciting opportunity to launch your career in the hair and beauty industry. As a 1st year apprentice, you will work alongside experienced hairdressers, developing foundational skills in cutting, colouring, styling and client care whilst completing your formal hairdressing qualification. This role is essential to our salon operations and provides a structured pathway into professional hairdressing.

Key responsibilities

1. Assisting senior stylists with client consultations and understanding client needs and preferences

2. Learning and practising fundamental hairdressing techniques including shampooing, conditioning, cutting and basic styling

3. Maintaining a clean, safe and hygienic salon environment in compliance with health and safety standards

4. Preparing and organising tools, equipment and products ready for use by stylists

5. Providing excellent customer service and creating a welcoming atmosphere for all clients

6. Attending and actively participating in formal training and apprenticeship classes as required

7. Developing product knowledge and understanding salon pricing, policies and procedures

8. Supporting the team with general salon duties including reception assistance, booking management and stock management

What we're looking for

1. A genuine passion for hair, beauty and working with people

2. Completion of Year 10 or equivalent education (or higher)

3.



Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a friendly, approachable manner

4. Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of presentation and hygiene

5. Willingness to learn and receptiveness to feedback from experienced team members

6. Reliability, punctuality and a positive attitude towards work and professional development

7. Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks

8. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a quick-paced salon environment

9. Commitment to completing your hairdressing apprenticeship qualification
