Registered Nurse (Anaesthetics) - St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney

Role title: Registered Nurse - Anaesthetics (Year 2 - 8)

Role type: Permanent full time

Department and location: Operating Theatres, St Vincent's Hospital, Darlinghurst

Salary: $78,346.12 - $104,336.27 + super.

About the role

Preoperative Care

- Prepare patients for anaesthesia by completing assessments, reviewing medical history and allergies, and providing reassurance and education about the anaesthetic process.
- Ensure all anaesthetic equipment, monitoring devices, and emergency resources are checked, prepared, and functioning prior to each procedure.
- Safely prepare, label, and manage anaesthetic medications in accordance with hospital policies and clinical standards.

Intraoperative Care

- Assist the anaesthetist throughout surgical procedures by managing airway equipment, administering and handling medications as directed, and anticipating procedural requirements.
- Continuously monitor the patient's physiological status, recognising and responding promptly to changes in condition to support optimal patient outcomes.
- Contribute to the effective management of perioperative emergencies, including airway compromise, anaphylaxis, and cardiac arrest, while maintaining a calm and coordinated approach.
- Support safe patient recovery by assisting with extubating, ongoing assessment, and ensuring patients are stable for transfer to the recovery unit.
- Provide comprehensive clinical handover to the recovery team, including details of the anaesthetic provided, intraoperative events, and any postoperative considerations.
- Deliver effective postoperative pain management and monitor for complications or adverse effects, escalating concerns as appropriate.

About you

- Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1)



with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and the application of evidence‑based practice, critical thinking, and sound clinical judgement.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and deliver safe, high‑quality care in a fast‑paced clinical environment.
