Hospital Medical Officer – Surgery HMO
Role Overview
Provide high‑quality person‑centred care within surgical clinical units, work collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams, and demonstrate a commitment to evidence‑based practice, ongoing learning, and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver person‑centred care to all patients.
- Work closely with nurses, allied health and senior clinicians as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Use evidence‑based practice and current literature to conduct assessments and formulate management decisions.
- Communicate clearly with patients, respecting cultural, religious and gender differences.
- Recognise ethical complexity in medical practice and follow skilled and ethical codes.
- Provide comprehensive handover information, especially for very sick patients.
- Maintain punctuality and manage daily workload through effective prioritisation.
Rotation Opportunities
- General Surgery
- ENT, Cardiothoracics, Plastics, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Orthopaedics, Trauma, Emergency and ICU
- Secondment and regional hospital rotations (Werribee Mercy, Swan Hill District Hospital, Warrnambool Base Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, RMH)
Qualifications & Requirements
- MBBS or equivalent.
- Provisional or general AHPRA registration.
- Current national criminal history check and Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain one.
- Full working rights within Australia.
- Enthusiasm and willingness to learn, develop skills and undertake early career rotations.
Appointment Details
Duration: 01 February 2026 – 06 February 2027 (extended contracts may be considered)
Classifications: HM12 – HM20 (pro rata for part‑time) – salary range $90,607.40 – $158,878.72.
