The Bricklayer (Blocklayer) is responsible for constructing, repairing, and maintaining brick, block, and stone structures across various civil construction sites. This role requires precision in laying materials for retaining walls, structural foundations, and infrastructure components. The successful candidate will interpret architectural plans, calculate material requirements, and execute masonry work to strict Australian Standards and project specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Study blueprints, civil engineering drawings, and specifications to determine material requirements, dimensions, and installation procedures.
- Seal foundations with damp-resistant materials to prevent moisture ingress.
- Prepare mortar mixtures to correct consistencies and spread mortar accurately for structural integrity.
- Lay bricks, stone, structural tiles, and heavy concrete building blocks in specified rows, designs, and shapes.
- Check the vertical and horizontal alignment of structures continuously using plumb bobs, spirit levels, and laser levels.
- Cut, shape, and polish stones,



bricks, and blocks using specialized masonry saws and hand tools to fit custom spaces.
- Build retaining walls, structural pillars, manholes, and other masonry components required for civil infrastructure projects.
- Repair and maintain existing brick, cement block, and related masonry structures on site.
- Comply with all Monolith Civil Australia

Work Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.

- Erect and dismantle scaffolding safely to facilitate masonry work at heights.
- Identify and report site hazards, near misses, and incidents to the Site Supervisor immediately.
- Ensure all masonry work complies with the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and relevant structural engineering standards.

Essential Skills

- Advanced ability to read and interpret complex civil construction plans and structural diagrams.
- Robust spatial awareness and ability to calculate material quantities accurately.
- High level of physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labour, lift heavy materials, and work in various weather conditions.
- Exceptional precision in alignment, leveling, and finishing of masonry structures.

Qualifications needed:

- Minimum Trade qualification certificate or equivalent relevant work experience
- Minimum one year of work experience on relevant position
- White card
- Driver’s License
