MapAI is building a new way for organisations to turn complex spatial data into trusted, actionable answers. Our GenAI-powered geospatial intelligence platform lets enterprise users ask location-based questions in natural language and receive transparent, explainable insights in seconds.
We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to work at the frontier of Generative AI, geospatial engineering and production software. You will partner directly with customers to turn difficult real-world problems into working solutions while helping shape the reusable product capabilities behind them.
This is a rare chance to build with cutting-edge AI, work with meaningful spatial data, and have a direct hand in how MapAI grows.
Qualifications
- Strong software engineering experience, ideally with Python and modern APIs, data systems or cloud applications
- Hands‑on experience building Generative AI applications, including LLMs, RAG, agentic workflows and evaluation systems
- Practical geospatial engineering or GIS experience, including spatial data, analysis and databases
- Ability to work across ambiguity: understand a customer problem, design a solution and deliver it
- Clear, confident communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Optional
- Experience with PostGIS, GDAL/OGR, ArcGIS, QGIS, GeoServer, OpenStreetMap, raster or vector data
- Experience with cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, TypeScript or React
- Experience integrating enterprise systems, APIs and data pipelines
- Experience in government, planning, utilities, logistics, disaster management, environmental services or other spatial-data-intensive sectors
- Experience in a startup, consulting, solutions engineering or customer‑facing technical role
- A track record of moving pilots into robust, production‑ready systems
- Curiosity, product instinct and a bias for building reusable solutions over one‑off custom work
- Familiarity with vector databases, multimodal AI, satellite imagery, LiDAR or IoT data
Responsibilities
- Build and improve Generative AI applications that turn natural-language questions into trustworthy spatial queries, analysis, reports and recommendations, including RAG, agentic and evaluation workflows across maps, reports, documents and geospatial databases.
- Integrate MapAI with customer environments, APIs, cloud services, GIS platforms and enterprise systems, helping ensure solutions are secure, reliable, scalable and ready for real-world use.
- Rapidly design and build prototypes, integrations and workflows for strategic customers, demonstrating how Generative AI can automate spatial analysis and unlock better location‑based decisions.
- Create a strong feedback loop between customers, product and engineering: identify gaps, surface recurring needs and turn customer learnings into reusable MapAI product capabilities.
- Serve as a trusted customer‑facing technical partner, understanding each customer’s data, workflows and highest‑value challenges, then translating complex business needs into practical technical solutions.
- Engineer robust geospatial data pipelines that connect, prepare and make spatial and temporal data - including GIS, enterprise, imagery and related sources - usable in AI-powered workflows.
What Success Looks Like
- A successful Forward Deployed Engineer at MapAI:
- Gets customers from promising use case to valuable production outcome quickly
- Combines deep technical judgement with an instinct for customer value
- Builds reusable solutions that strengthen the core product, not just one-off customisations
- Makes complex geospatial data easier for people across an organisation to understand and use
- Helps MapAI earn customer trust through reliable, transparent and explainable AI
- Influences the product roadmap with sharp, grounded insight from real deployments
