Senior Mental Health Social Worker | 6-Month Contract | Mt Isa | Travel & Accommodation Provided

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mental Health Social Worker or Psychologist for a 6-month contract in Mt Isa, with the opportunity to transition into a permanent leadership position and relocate to the region.

This is a senior clinical and management role for an experienced mental health professional who can lead and support a multidisciplinary team while remaining actively involved in intake, assessment and complex clinical work.

The successful candidate will bring strong mental health expertise, proven leadership experience and the confidence to provide guidance and support across a busy service.

The Role

You will provide senior clinical and operational leadership across the service, supporting both the team and clients with a wide range of mental health needs.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Leading, mentoring and supporting a multidisciplinary mental health team
- Overseeing intake, referrals and initial assessments
- Supporting the allocation and prioritisation of complex cases
- Providing clinical guidance and support to team members
- Managing escalations, risk and complex client presentations
- Supporting strong service delivery and effective team performance
- Providing trauma-informed and person-centred care
- Working with youth and adolescents experiencing mental health challenges




- Conducting psychosocial and mental health assessments
- Supporting risk assessment, safety planning and crisis response
- Working collaboratively with families, carers and external services
- Contributing to continuous improvement across the service

Essential Requirements To be considered for this role, you must have:

- Qualification as a Social Worker or Psychologist
- Current AASW accreditation or relevant professional registration
- Current Medicare provider number and ability to provide Medicare-funded mental health services
- Minimum 7 to 10 years of relevant mental health experience
- Proven senior management or leadership experience
- Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring and supporting a clinical team
- Strong experience managing intake, referrals and service demand
- Extensive mental health experience across complex presentations
- Demonstrated experience working with youth and adolescents
- Strong trauma-informed practice experience
- Experience with clinical risk assessment and complex case management
- Robust decision-making, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to provide both operational and clinical leadership
