The Opportunity

This is a permanent position working 4 days; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (20 hours per week/41 weeks per year) as a member of the Sugarloaf Café team at the College.

The Sugarloaf Cafe is a catering, training and community building hub for the College community. This position involves working collaboratively with the Cafe staff and Hospitality (VET – Vocational Educational Training) staff and students. This position involves overseeing a wide variety of functions from preparing and cooking meals for the ELCC and College community, to customer service and cleaning of the cafe to industry standards.

Key responsibilities include

The School Café Cook and Assistant is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, appealing and high-quality food to students, staff and visitors within a busy school café environment. The role requires a strong commitment to food safety, customer service, teamwork and maintaining a positive and welcoming atmosphere.



The successful applicant will support the school’s commitment to student wellbeing by promoting healthy food choices and ensuring the café operates efficiently, safely and professionally.

The position will require a flexible approach to all the required tasks and a total school view in the approach to the job. Under the direction of the Café Manager, the Cafe Cook and Assistant is to:

Prepare and cook a variety of fresh food items in accordance with menu requirements.

Assist with menu planning, including healthy and seasonal options.

Ensure food presentation is of a high standard.

Prepare meals and snacks within designated timeframes.

You

We are seeking someone with:

Experience working in a commercial kitchen, café or hospitality environment.

Demonstrated ability to prepare and cook food efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge of food safety standards and safe food handling practices.

Strong organisational and time management skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.

Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
