Northline is seeking a motivated Operations Supervisor to join our Afternoon Freight Operations team at St Marys. The Opportunity
Reporting to the PM Operations Manager, you will provide day-to-day leadership to a team of Forklift Operators, General Hands and Receiving Officers, supporting the safe, timely and efficient movement of freight.
You will coordinate daily freight activities, allocate labour, monitor operational performance and maintain the processes and controls required to deliver safe, efficient and customer-focused outcomes. The role includes oversight of inbound and outbound freight, manifest controls, RF scanning, freight visibility, loading quality, dangerous goods compliance, held-over freight and operational reporting.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead People
- Provide clear day-to-day direction to operational team members.
- Coach employees and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Support employee onboarding, training and skills development.
- Build a positive, engaged and accountable team culture.
- Assist with performance conversations, workplace investigations and attendance matters.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration across teams and shifts.
Lead Safety
- Lead a safe and positive workplace culture.
- Conduct toolbox talks and reinforce safe working expectations.
- Ensure hazards, incidents and operational risks are identified, reported and managed.
- Support incident reporting, investigations and corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance with Chain of Responsibility and applicable operational safety requirements.
Lead Operations
- Coordinate daily inbound and outbound freight activities.
- Support the safe and efficient loading and unloading of linehaul and pickup-and-delivery vehicles.
- Allocate labour according to freight volumes, operational priorities and service requirements.
- Maintain freight visibility through RF scanning and audit processes.
- Ensure loading, manifest, dangerous goods and operational controls are completed accurately and on time.
- Monitor held-over freight and escalate issues affecting service delivery.
- Track daily safety, service, quality and productivity outcomes.
- Work with the Operations Manager to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
Support Our Customers
- Help the team achieve daily service commitments.
- Identify and escalate operational issues that may affect customers.
- Support timely service recovery and freight investigations.
- Maintain a strong focus on freight quality and customer experience.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Experience within transport, logistics, warehousing, manufacturing or another fast-paced operational environment.
- Previous experience as a Team Leader, Leading Hand, Shift Coordinator, Supervisor or in a comparable leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example and positively influence others.
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound problem-solving and decision-making capability.
- Ability to organise work, prioritise competing demands and remain effective in a busy environment.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence.
- Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- A current forklift licence and operational freight-handling experience.
Highly Regarded
- Experience coordinating freight, fleet or warehouse operations.
- Exposure to labour planning, productivity management and KPI reporting.
- Knowledge of dangerous goods,
Chain of Responsibility and operational compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting employee training, performance discussions or workplace investigations.
- Familiarity with freight scanning, manifests, loading controls and service-performance measures.
