About The Role
Central Goldfields Shire Council operates a small rural pound in Maryborough Victoria, where we care for stray, surrendered and seized dogs and cats until their owners are located or they can be rehomed whenever possible.
Reporting to the Compliance Coordinator, the Animal Attendant plays a key role in the day-to-day functions of the pound and daily care of animals at the facility. The successful applicant will be required to work daily 2-hour shifts Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 11.00am.
Animal Attendant Duties Include
Carry out basic animal husbandry duties on a daily basis including, but not limited to:Feeding, watering and inspection of all animalsCleaning of animal housing areasAdministering medication and treatment as prescribed by veterinary practitionerRoutine disinfection of animal housing areas and equipmentExercising of animals as requiredProvision of environmental enrichment for the animals.Maintain the animal shelter buildings, as well as the grounds of the facility, in a neat and tidy condition.Ensure that any animals with infectious diseases are confined in isolation pens, are under veterinary supervision, and that the fate of the animal should be decided in consultation with a veterinarian.Examine all animals daily, ensuring animals that appear to be unwell or injured receive prompt veterinary attention when required.Promptly report animals that are showing symptoms of illness, injury, or behavioural abnormalities to the Coordinator Compliance.Support animal reclaim, foster care placement and rehoming activities.Maintain accurate and timely records relating to this function.Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
About You
Experience and confidence in handling, transporting and caring for domestic animals,
preferably in a shelter/pound environment or similar.Proven knowledge and experience understanding dog and cat health and behaviour.Able to demonstrate self-motivation and self-discipline in work undertaken.Excellent customer service and communication skills.Current Employee Working with Children Check and valid Victorian Driver License required.
Key Selection Criteria
Demonstrated experience in animal husbandry and handling practices relevant to this position complimented by a good knowledge of common health conditions dogs and cats can have.Knowledge and understanding of the health and safety risks associated with this position with a proven ability to operate in a safe manner and contribute to a safe work environment.Proven ability in using computer systems including Microsoft Office and web-based applications.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.A demonstrated ability in effectively working autonomously and cohesively as part of a team utilising work practices that support achieving common objectives.Experience providing excellent customer service including the ability to problem solve, provide guidance and assist members of public.Hold a current Working with Children Card prior to commencement.Willingness to undertake a National Police Check.
