The Client
Cowie Collision Centre in Beenleigh, QLD operates in the automotive collision repair industry, providing vehicle body repair, accident damage restoration, panel replacement, refinishing preparation, and related repair services for damaged motor vehicles.
They are seeking an experienced Panel Beater to join their team in Beenleigh, QLD.
The Role
This is for a full-time position with an annual salary set at $80,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation.
The Responsibilities
- Inspect damaged vehicles to assess collision impact, panel deformation, structural damage, repair feasibility, and required repair methods.
- Remove, repair, replace and refit damaged vehicle panels, guards, doors, bonnets, bumpers, boot lids and related body components.
- Use panel beating techniques to straighten, reshape, shrink, stretch and restore damaged metal panels to manufacturer and repair specifications.
- Operate body repair equipment including panel beating tools, hydraulic pulling systems, dent repair tools, grinders, welders, sanders and measuring equipment.
- Carry out vehicle body alignment and structural repair preparation to ensure repaired panels, gaps, joints and mounting points are correctly positioned.
- Perform cutting, welding, bonding, riveting and fastening work for panel replacement, reinforcement sections and body repair components.
- Prepare repaired surfaces for refinishing, including sanding, filling, shaping, priming preparation and surface quality checking before paintwork.
- Interpret repair instructions, insurance assessments, manufacturer specifications and workshop job cards to complete accurate collision repair work.
- Identify hidden damage, corrosion, weakened body sections, poor previous repairs and safety-related repair issues during the repair process.
- Coordinate with spray painters, estimators,
mechanics and workshop supervisors to ensure repair workflow, quality standards and delivery timelines are achieved.
- Check completed panel repairs for alignment, finish, fitment, surface smoothness, panel gaps and overall vehicle presentation.
- Maintain safe work practices when handling sharp panels, welding equipment, power tools, hazardous materials, lifting equipment and damaged vehicles.
- Support workshop efficiency by managing assigned repair jobs, preparing parts, controlling material use and maintaining clean work areas.
- Ensure all panel repair work complies with workplace safety, vehicle repair standards, insurance requirements and customer quality expectations.
The Requirements:
- Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology, Automotive Vehicle Body Repair, or an equivalent
- At least 3 years' experience in automotive panel beating, collision repair, vehicle body restoration or accident damage repair.
- At least 3 years' experience repairing, replacing, aligning and refitting vehicle panels, guards, doors, bonnets, bumpers and structural body components.
- At least 3 years' experience using panel beating tools, hydraulic pulling systems, welding equipment, grinders, sanders, fillers and body repair machinery.
- At least 3 years' experience interpreting repair methods, insurance assessments, workshop job cards, manufacturer specifications and vehicle body repair requirements.
- At least 3 years' experience preparing repaired panels for refinishing, including sanding, shaping, filling, surface finishing, primer preparation and quality inspection.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and repair documentation
- Good understanding of workplace safety procedures and automotive compliance standards
- Ability to work independently and manage workload in a workshop setting
- Good communication skills and ability to liaise with team members and customers
- Valid Driver's Licence
