Most creative roles are production seats dressed up as strategy seats. You get handed briefs, you make things, someone else decides if they worked.
This is the opposite.
This is a seat where you own the thinking. Where the question isn't "can you make a good ad" it's "can you build the system that produces winning ads on repeat, and can you teach that system to founders and teams so they win without you in the room."
If you've spent years developing that skill and you're tired of it being treated like a nice-to-have, keep reading. This role was built for you.
The Offer
Here's what's actually on the table:
A strategy mandate, not a task list. You own creative strategy across a portfolio of D2C brands. Angle architecture, testing frameworks, iteration loops, creative-to-media-buying feedback systems. You set the thinking. Others execute against it.
A creative engine to build and run. Not one brand's content calendar. A repeatable system that produces high volumes of tested creative across dozens of brands simultaneously — and gets measurably better every cycle. If you've ever wanted to build the machine instead of feeding it, this is that.
Direct line of sight from your thinking to ROAS. Every framework you build, every angle you develop, every testing structure you install shows up in the numbers within weeks. No six-month brand studies. No "awareness lift." Spend, return, iterate.
Leverage through people. You'll enable founders and internal team members to think about creative the way you do. One good framework in your head becomes fifty brands executing better. That's the multiplier this seat offers that no agency or in-house role can.
A path that actually goes somewhere. As the portfolio scales, this seat evolves into Creative Director or Head of Creative Performance, leading strategy across new markets and verticals. The ceiling is your appetite.
Impact you can hear. The founders you coach are real people building their first real thing. When your strategy work takes a brand from $3K months to $30K+ months, that founder hires their mum, pays down the mortgage early, quits the job they hate.
You'll be on the calls. You'll hear it directly. Once you've experienced that, agency work never feels the same.
The Context
eCom Capital is building the world's leading eCommerce incubator. We teach everyday Australians how to launch, grow, and scale real online brands, around 50 staff, hundreds of active founder clients, all on Shopify, all spending on Meta, Google and Tiktok.
The mission: help one new founder hit their first $10K month — every hour of every day.
That's $87.6M+ in new founder revenue per year, and the single biggest constraint on hitting it is creative that converts at levels that allow for enabling the kind of ambition that these founders have to grow.
That's the problem you're being hired to solve at scale.
The Work
This role runs on three layers. All strategy, no busywork.
1. Build and run the creative engine
- Design the angle development process — how we go from customer psychology and market research to a bank of testable creative angles per brand
- Own the testing framework — volume targets, iteration cadence, kill criteria, scaling triggers
- Build the feedback loop between creative performance data and the next round of briefs, so the engine compounds instead of guessing
- Set the standard for what "shippable" means — 5+ statics and 5+ videos per brand launch, every one built around a conversion thesis, not an aesthetic
2. Enable founders to think like strategists
- Run weekly group coaching calls and 1:1 sessions — teaching founders how to think about creative, not what to copy
- Turn complex strategy into Loom breakdowns, frameworks, and playbooks founders can execute the same week
- Drive accountability — founders execute, iterate, and push creative live, because momentum beats perfection
3. Enable the internal team to drive ad performance
- Partner with Account Managers and media buyers — translating performance data into creative direction and creative direction into performance
- Feed the marketing team strategy loops: what's working, why it's working, what to build next
- Raise the creative thinking of everyone around you until the standard holds without you enforcing it
What "Great" Looks Like in 12 Months
- A creative engine producing high-volume, high-velocity output across the portfolio — with testing discipline that predictably surfaces winners
- Portfolio-wide ROAS moving because of systems you built, not one-off wins you made
- Founders who genuinely understand creative strategy and produce converting content independently
- An internal team that treats you as the partner in performance — the person who made everyone sharper
- Frameworks and IP with your fingerprints on them, deployed across hundreds of brands
The Evidence We're Looking For
This seat requires proof, not potential. When you apply, we want to see:
- Brands you've grown. Real DTC brands where your creative strategy drove measurable scale — revenue, ROAS, spend efficiency.
Names and numbers.
- Engines you've built. A creative process or team you designed and ran that produced serious volume — dozens of assets per week, structured testing, documented iteration. Show us how it worked.
- Teams you've levelled up. Evidence you've made other people better — creative teams you've led, founders or marketers you've coached, frameworks you built that others still use.
- Psychology you can articulate. You understand why people buy at a depth most creatives never reach, and you can turn that understanding into angles, hooks, and briefs.
- Meta, TikTok, Shopify at scale. You know these platforms from the inside — what the algorithm rewards, what the feed punishes, what actually converts.
Bonus if you've built your own eCom store. You'll coach differently once you've felt what founders feel.
Who This Is Not For
Read this honestly. It'll save us both time.
This is not for you if:
- You want briefs handed to you. There's no one above you doing the thinking.
- Your portfolio is beautiful work with no performance data attached. We respect craft — but craft that doesn't convert doesn't count here.
- You need six weeks and three approval rounds to ship. We move in days.
- You'd rather be right than find the truth. We test, the data decides, egos stay at the door.
- "Positive enough" is a phrase you're comfortable with. Our team holds wildly high standards and pushes each other daily. If that sounds exhausting rather than energising, this will be a miserable place for you.
- You want to hide behind a team. Founders will ask you hard questions live, on calls, weekly. If that makes you sweat for the wrong reasons, don't apply.
No hard feelings either way. But there's no middle ground in this seat — you'll either love it or you'll hate it, and we'd rather you know before you apply.
Our Values
Default to Drive: Relentless over reasonable.
Be the Source: Solve from first principles, create with intent.
Build in Public, Deliver in Silence: Radical truth, quiet precision.
Hold the Line: Right beats easy. Always.
Give a F*ck: Details, clients, outcomes. We care more.
What's Next
If you've built creative systems that scale brands, and you're ready to do it across a portfolio instead of one logo at a time, apply now with your CV and cover letter.
For fast-track consideration, send a short video covering:
1. The engine. Walk us through a creative system you built, how it worked, the volume it produced, and the performance it drove. Numbers welcome.
2. The enablement. Tell us about someone you made better, a founder, a team, a junior strategist, and how you did it.
3. The fit. Why this mission, why this seat, why now.
We read everything. If you're the right person, you'll know it by the end of this ad, and so will we.
