Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) is seeking a motivated and community-focused Tobacco Action Worker to join our Community Health Programs team.
This role is part of the Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Program, supporting Aboriginal communities across the Western Desert region through smoking prevention, cessation support, health promotion activities, and community engagement initiatives. The position works closely with community members, stakeholders, and partner organisations to reduce smoking rates and improve health outcomes.
About the Role
Reporting to the Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Project Officer, you will:
- Support the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the Tackling Indigenous Smoking Program.
- Deliver culturally appropriate smoking prevention and cessation activities.
- Coordinate and participate in community health promotion events, forums, and awareness campaigns.
- Build robust relationships with community members, stakeholders, and partner organisations.
- Assist with program monitoring, data collection, reporting, and evaluation activities.
- Support the development of community-led strategies to reduce smoking prevalence.
- Travel regularly to remote communities within the PAMS service region.
About You
To be successful, you will have:
- An understanding of the health, social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Knowledge of smoking prevention and cessation programs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal communities.
- Experience delivering health promotion activities, group programs, or one-on-one support.
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills.
- Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Current unrestricted C-Class Manual Driver’s Licence and willingness to drive 4WD vehicles.
Desirable
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identification and community recognition.
- Qualifications in health sciences, education, community services, or related disciplines.
