About the role
PTS Group is looking for a mechanic who can do more than just turn spanners. This role is part workshop, part field, part site crew - and we need someone who can handle all three.
You'll be responsible for keeping our fleet on the road and on site. That means scheduled servicing, breakdown repairs, defect rectification and managing the maintenance program across our sucker trucks, excavators, heavy vehicles and drilling rigs. You'll own the maintenance schedule, track what's due, make sure nothing slips, and keep the gear in the condition it needs to be in to work safely and reliably on remote project sites.
When you're not under a bonnet or a machine, you could be welding and fabricating - repairing excavator buckets, reamers, drill tooling, brackets and whatever else needs making or fixing. And when the crew needs an extra set of hands on site, you'll be operating plant, driving trucks and getting stuck into the civil construction work alongside the rest of the team.
This isn't a role where you sit in one spot. Our projects run across regional NSW and you'll need to travel to site to service gear, fix breakdowns and support the crew. If you want variety, autonomy and a job where no two days are the same, this is it.
What you'll be doing
- Servicing and maintaining our fleet of excavators, sucker trucks, light/heavy vehicles and drilling rigs
- Managing the maintenance schedule - tracking service intervals, logging defects, scheduling repairs and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks
- Diagnosing and repairing faults in the field and in the workshop
- Welding and steel fabrication - repairing and manufacturing excavator buckets, reamers, drill tooling, mounts and general structural steel items
- Operating plant and heavy vehicles on construction sites as required
- Assisting with civil construction works including pipe laying, trenching and earthworks when needed
- Maintaining accurate service records and ensuring compliance with WHS requirements
What we're looking for
- Trade qualified mechanic (Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology, Heavy Commercial Vehicle, or equivalent)
- Competent MIG and stick welder with practical fabrication experience - you don't need to be a boilermaker, but you need to be able to cut, fit and weld steel confidently
- Experience maintaining and servicing heavy plant, trucks and hydraulic equipment
- HR or HC licence (or willingness to obtain)
- Excavator operation experience (or willingness to learn - we'll support the right person)
- White Card
- Comfortable working independently, prioritising your own workload and managing a maintenance program without being micromanaged
- Willing to travel to project sites across regional NSW and work away from home when required
- Reliable,
practical and not afraid to get dirty - this is a hands-on role in a small company where everyone pitches in
Desirable but not essential
- Experience with vacuum/sucker truck systems
- Experience with directional drilling rigs or foundation drilling equipment
- Hydraulic hose making and fitting
- Auto electrical diagnostic experience
- HC licence
What we offer
- Competitive hourly rate based on experience and capability
- Overtime and penalty rates in accordance with the relevant Award
- Nightly travel allowance when working away from home
- Autonomy to run the maintenance program your way, as long as the fleet stays safe and reliable
- Variety - workshop, field service, fabrication and site work all in one role
- A small, no-nonsense crew that works hard and looks after each other
- Genuine opportunity to shape the role and grow with the company
