About the Project

The ARC Discovery Indigenous project, Evaluating justice reinvestment: Understanding First Nations' justice, is a nationally significant research initiative led by the Centre for Indigenous Futures (University of Queensland) in partnership with Jumbunna Research and Justice Reinvestment Network Australia (JRNA). Using an Indigenist, community-led approach, the project explores how justice reinvestment can strengthen self-determined justice outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and inform future justice policy and practice.

About the role

The Research Officer will support the delivery of the ARC Discovery Indigenous project by providing research, project and stakeholder support to the Chief Investigator. Working within Jumbunna Research's Law and Justice Hub, you will contribute to research activities including data collection and analysis, literature reviews, project coordination and reporting, while working collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, researchers and project partners.

About You

As the Research Officer, you will:

- Provide research support to the Chief Investigator, including undertaking literature reviews, supporting data collection and analysis, and assisting with the preparation of reports, publications and other project outputs.

- Establish, build and maintain positive, respectful ongoing relationships with all project stakeholders,



including First Nations organisations and communities.

- Work collaboratively and contribute to positive, respectful relationships across the project team, including all partnering organisations.

- Support the critical outreach, knowledge translation and impact objectives of the project, including contributing to the implementation of research insights into activities and advocacy.

- Provide general administrative and logistical support across a range of research-related activities, including stakeholder engagement, team meetings and project coordination, to help ensure the successful delivery of the project.

1. Demonstrated experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, with an understanding of Indigenous cultures, values and culturally responsive research practices.

2. Experience supporting complex research projects, including qualitative data collection and analysis, field research, literature reviews, and the preparation of research reports, publications or other research outputs.

3. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with First Nations organisations, communities and a broad range of stakeholders.

4. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities, support field-based research activities and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.

Highly desirable

5. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of First Nations justice issues and First Nations evaluation approaches

Remuneration/Salary

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $98,792 to $106,966 pa (HEW 6)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.

This position is part time (0.6 FTE) and is offered on a fixed-term basis for three (3) years.
