The Strategy Group is a human-centred strategy consultancy based in Sydney, working with public and private sector clients since 2003. We are building out our major projects and construction practice, and we are looking for someone who can help tier-1 construction and infrastructure clients win more of the bids that matter.
Most bid teams in construction are led by engineers. They are outstanding at technical merit, methodology and price, and often less comfortable putting the client's client at the centre of the story. That gap is where this role lives. You will help our clients shift their mindset: putting the Customer in the centre rather than the organisation. That means understanding what the customer actually cares about, speaking in their language, and showing how a team-oriented, delight-driven approach through the construction phase gives the evaluation panel a reason to pick them.
This is a senior, client-facing role. You will lead engagements end to end: shaping bid strategy, running capture and win-theme workshops, and working closely with client teams to turn strategy into compelling tender submissions, including the interactives, content and presentation materials that go in front of evaluation panels.
What you will be doing
- Lead end-to-end major bid and tender engagements for tier-1 construction and infrastructure clients, from early capture strategy through to submission.
- Shift how technical teams think about bidding: help engineers and project leads move from a compliance mindset to a client-centred one, reframing submissions around what the client's client actually cares about.
- Run capture assessments and strategy workshops with senior client stakeholders to sharpen win themes and build a credible case to win.
- Coach subject matter experts on how to tell a compelling, client-centred story, including how to convey collaboration and delight during the construction phase, not just technical compliance.
- Own the client relationship day to day, understanding what a client actually needs rather than just what they have asked for.
- Guide the development of interactives, written content and presentation materials, working with the project team to keep quality high and deadlines on track.
- Coach client teams on bid process, tender reviews and pitch delivery, building capability that outlasts the engagement.
- Manage timelines, priorities and risk across multiple concurrent engagements.
- Bring your own network and credibility in the construction and infrastructure sector to open doors and build trust quickly.
What you will bring
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to engage with senior leaders in major firms
- A genuine track record and existing network in construction, infrastructure or major projects in Australia.
- Experience leading complex bids or tenders, ideally including bid strategy, capture planning or bid process improvement.
- The ability to shift how technical experts think and write: moving them from a compliance mindset to genuine client-centred storytelling, without losing technical credibility.
- Background in management consulting, or comparable experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder engagements.
- Confidence engaging senior stakeholders and an understanding of how tier-1 construction and infrastructure organisations make decisions.
- Strong PowerPoint skills; Miro experience is a plus.
- The judgement to work autonomously across competing priorities, and the collaborative instinct to bring a project team with you.
- Managing bid writers to ensure key messages consistency (win themes, value proposition, etc.), and leverage TSG’s preferred AI submission platform, InsightWise
Working Arrangements
- Hybrid: three days in the Bondi Junction office (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday), two days remote.
- Based in Sydney, with full working rights in Australia.
