We are seeking a heavyweight, highly autonomous Infrastructure and Platform Engineer to design, build, and standardize a high-performance, enterprise Big Data & Analytics Execution Platform. This role bridges core on‑premises colocation environments (SAN, HPE Synergy Frame/Blade, VMware ESXi) and a critical on‑prem to Azure migration initiative (utilizing AKS, Azure networking, and identity management)

This is a fast‑paced, 7-12 month deployment spanning Prod, SIT, Pre‑Prod, and DR. You will be responsible for translating complex software blueprints into battle‑hardened environments while actively driving the vendor delivering the platform to ensure a seamless hybrid‑to‑cloud transition.

The Profile We Need

- Logical & Autonomous: You think on your feet, drive execution without supervision, and cut through ambiguity.
- Vendor Driver: You don't just take vendor-provided procedures at face value; you challenge assumptions, translate their delivery into your own strict enterprise requirements (security, audit, DR), and keep them accountable.
- Security & Hardening First: You naturally design under strict security controls. You deeply understand security baselines, OS/image hardening, and removing bloatware (passing rigorous vulnerability/Tenable checks is second nature).
- Root-Cause Resolver: When outages or migration bottlenecks occur, you dive deep into logs and metrics, rally stakeholders, and own the end‑to‑end solution.

Key Responsibilities

- Migration & Vendor Management:

Act as the technical anchor managing the platform vendor throughout an active on‑prem to Azure migration. Coordinate requirements verification, installation procedures, tuning, and cloud‑readiness validation.
- Infrastructure & Cloud Integration: Build, maintain, and harden Linux/VMware environments on‑prem while parallelly designing target infrastructure within Azure (AKS, Azure Networking, and Identity).
- Platform & Middleware Architecture: Design, build, and optimize the core data ecosystem across both environments: Kubernetes (nodes, CNI, Ingress, RBAC), Apache Spark (job execution, resource allocation, tuning), Elasticsearch (sharding, ILM, heap tuning), and PostgreSQL (redundancy, backup/restore).
- DR & Environment Lifecycle: Formulate configuration policies across environments, establish seamless SIT to Pre‑Prod to Prod promotion paths, and design high‑availability DR sites (RPO/RTO implementation, failover testing, and cloud‑bursting considerations).
- CI/CD & Code Management: Establish Git operating standards (branching, secrets management, pipelines) utilizing Enterprise Git and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitLab) to ensure infrastructure reproducibility.

Technical Breakdown

Must-Haves

- Migration & Cloud: Proven experience in on‑premises to cloud migration projects (specifically targeting Microsoft Azure/AKS).
- Vendor Management: Strong track record of managing and coordinating deliverables with third‑party technical vendors alongside internal cross‑functional teams.
- OS & Virtualization: Expert Linux Administration (Shell scripting, hardening, troubleshooting) & VMware ESXi / vSphere.
- Data & Middleware: Hands‑on operation, deployment, or design of Elasticsearch clusters and PostgreSQL databases.
- DevOps/CI/CD: Git ecosystems (Azure DevOps, GitLab, or Jenkins pipelines and branch management).

Highly Advantageous (Nice‑to‑Have)

- Fiber Switches: Experience understanding or configuring Fiber Channel / SAN switches.
- Big Data: Hands‑on Apache Spark deployment and tuning (K8s or VM based).
- Hardware & Storage: HPE Synergy (Frame/Blade) operational experience; advanced SAN multipath and performance design.
- Automation: Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) and GitOps principles (e.g., Argo CD).
- End‑to‑end Migration and Hybrid Design Documents, configuration drawings, and sizing materials by setting.
- Hardened Construction and Operation Guides for the VMware, K8s, Azure, Elastic, and PostgreSQL stacks.
- DR design documents, automated switching procedures, and cloud failover test reports.
- Vendor alignment documentation, technical acceptance criteria, and operational runbooks.
