Assistant Manager – Brunswick Baths
Location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia—Brunswick Baths, an iconic aquatic and leisure facility within Merri‑Bek City Council.
Base Pay Range
A$95,000.00 per year – A$103,000.00 per year. The final remuneration is based on skills and experience and is complemented by superannuation and Y Benefits.
About the Centre
Brunswick Baths offers a dynamic range of aquatic recreation, learn‑to‑swim programmes, fitness and wellness services. The YMCA works in partnership with Merri‑Bek Council to deliver an active community, with facilities also including Coburg Leisure Centre, Coburg Outdoor Pool, Fawkner Leisure Centre, Pascoe Vale Outdoor Pool and Oak Park Leisure Centre.
About the Role
As Assistant Manager you support the Centre Manager in day‑to‑day operations, lead key teams, and maintain high operational standards across key areas: operations, aquatic safety, and asset management. You will also support Customer Experience, Health & Wellness, and Learn‑to‑Swim units, act as a visible, approachable leader, nurture community partnerships, and shape local engagement to meet community needs.
About You
- Demonstrated experience managing complex community facility assets, including pool plant equipment.
- Strong leadership capability, positively influencing staff, supporting performance, and sustaining an engaged team culture.
- Excellent collaboration skills working alongside the Centre Manager and broader leadership team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to engage customers, staff, Council and community groups.
- A solutions‑focused mindset that supports operational improvements and project implementation.
- Customer‑experience focus: ensuring programs are welcoming, inclusive and community‑centred.
- Business and financial acumen: budgeting, reporting, and day‑to‑day operational decision making.
- Commitment to safety, experience in risk management, and modelling safe behaviours.
- High personal motivation, professionalism, and ability to work independently in alignment with the Active Merri‑Bek team.

Qualifications & Experience
- First Aid Certificate.
- Pool Operations Operator Certificate (highly regarded).
- Tertiary qualification in Sports Management, Business Management or related field (highly regarded).
- Previous strong leadership experience essential.
