Doctors in Training (DiT) 2027 - Advanced Trainee - General Medicine - Multiple positions

Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is a 400‑bed public hospital providing acute care services and is the major referral centre for the North and North West regions of Tasmania. It is a teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania and accredited with the RACP for advanced training in a number of specialties including General Medicine.

During your Advanced Physician Training at LGH you will be exposed to a wide range of well‑supported inpatient and outpatient work. There are opportunities to rotate to a number of specialties including Perioperative Medicine, Endocrinology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Stroke, Cardiology, Renal, Respiratory and Rehabilitation, as well as opportunities to assist with the organisation of the FRACP clinical examination. Acute terms are readily available in Cardiology, Stroke and the Acute Medical Unit.

We encourage our trainees to be actively involved in teaching through the University of Tasmania – with opportunities for honorary titles – and the teaching program for Basic Physician Trainees. General and Acute Care Medicine Advanced Trainees benefit from a dedicated education programme focused on the professional skills required to be a General Physician. There is also ample opportunity for research and supervision of the Advanced Training Research Projects, supported by the Clifford Craig Foundation with research grants available to successful applicants, including trainees.

The role

- Responsible for day‑to‑day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the allocated site/facility.
- Provide after‑hours emergency coverage as determined by the relevant work unit.

Details of appointment

Multiple fixed‑term full‑time day worker with an on‑call position, working 76 hours per fortnight with an additional 10 hours of protected training time,



commencing from 1 February 2027 until 6 February 2028. Negotiation of contracts of up to three years and versatile training may be applicable.

- Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
- For a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full‑time and part‑time vacancies.

Salary

Medical Practitioner Level 5‑11: $134,930 – $189,005 per annum, pro rata, plus 11.5 % superannuation and access to salary packaging.

- Salary range is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022.
- This is an Advanced Trainee position.

Eligibility

- General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Current Working with Children Registration.

Qualifications Highly Desirable

- Successfully completed basic physician training OR
- RACP peer review (determined approval to work at an AT level by the RACP).
- Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times while employed; the employee is responsible for ensuring registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if circumstances change.
