Role Overview
As a trusted advisor to senior leaders, the Director, Business Risk (internally titled Senior Risk Enablement Partner) plays a critical role in embedding risk management across strategy, transformation, and day-to-day operations. This is a leadership role with accountability for building and developing a high-performing team, strengthening risk capability, and fostering a culture of accountability and informed risk-taking. You’ll enable the business to move with confidence balancing innovation with strong, pragmatic risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and oversee the risk profile across assigned business portfolios, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and strategy
- Partner with senior leaders to identify, assess, and manage key risks, delivering clear and actionable insights
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team, building capability and a solid risk culture
- Provide first line risk, control, and compliance advice across business activities, initiatives, and transformation programs
- Lead risk profiling and control effectiveness activities, including identification of material risks, key controls, and KRIs
- Design, implement, and continuously improve controls, ensuring they are effective, scalable, and embedded
- Monitor adherence to policies, standards, and regulatory obligations, proactively identifying and escalating emerging risks
- Oversee incident, issue,
and remediation management to ensure timely resolution and sustainable outcomes
- Deliver high-quality, forward-looking risk reporting to governance forums and senior stakeholders
- Drive uplift in risk maturity, capability, and first line accountability across the business
- Lead risk governance forums and partner closely with second line and assurance teams
- Translate regulatory expectations and industry best practice into practical, business-aligned outcomes
Experience and Qualifications
- 8+ years’ experience in Line 1 risk, operational risk, or risk assurance within financial services
- Strong understanding of non-financial risk frameworks, controls, and regulatory obligations
- Proven ability to partner with senior leaders and embed risk into strategy, change, and operations
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing teams
- Strong commercial judgement, with the ability to balance risk with business outcomes
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with confidence to challenge constructively
Location: Sydney-based permanent role. Requires Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency.
