WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is seeking experienced Psychiatry Registrars to join the Rural Psychiatry Training WA (RPTWA) program across rural Western Australia.

Positions : Fixed Term Full Time or Part Time appointments for existing RANZCP Trainees seeking to transfer to the RPTWA program. Appointments for up to 5 years, with the possibility of extension.

Locations : Albany, Broome, Bunbury, Busselton, Geraldton, Northam, Karratha and Port Hedland.

Salary (inclusive of base salary, allowances, superannuation and relocation subsidies):

- South of the 26th Parallel – Trainee Psychiatrist Years 1‑7: $170,462.88 to $228,201.12 pa. (Base $140,819–$192,371; Development $11,380; 12% super.)
- North of the 26th Parallel – Registrar Years 1‑3: $178,223 to $194,925 pa. (Base $147,748–$162,661; Development $11,380; 12% super.)
- North of the 26th Parallel – HSMP Years 1‑6: $300,622 to $377,620 pa. (Base $226,833–$293,564; Development $34,696; 12% super.)

Roles and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will work as an integral part of multidisciplinary and medical teams, under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist, providing assessment and management for clients requiring specialist psychiatric care. The role supports a length of training contract (two to five years) with WACHS.

Essential Criteria

- Commitment to a rural post in psychiatry.
- Good interpersonal and high‑level communication skills.
- Current RANZCP trainee or approved Break in Training.




- Ability to satisfy the Selection Panel with suitable academic record, RANZCP training record and employment history.
- Commitment and eligibility to undertake psychiatry training.

Desirable Criteria

- Clinical competence in both General Medicine and Psychological Medicine.
- Ability to use problem‑solving techniques and cope effectively with stressful situations.
- “C” Class Driver’s Licence.
- Rural background and/or rural clinical experience.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
