Venue Operations Manager – Cellar Door, Kitchen & Functions
Competitive Salary | From $100K + Super + Performance Incentives + Staff Wine
Lead the team at our busy Cellar Door, Kitchen & Functions venue – day shifts only.
As Venue Operations Manager for Main & Cherry, you will oversee the day-to-day operation of our cellar door, kitchen and functions venue, located atop Chandlers Hill, just 30 minutes from the Adelaide CBD.
Unlike many hospitality positions, this is predominantly a daytime role, with only occasional evening functions, giving you genuine work-life balance.
Working closely with the Owner/Winemaker and Head Chef, you'll lead our front-of-house team and help ensure every part of the venue operates seamlessly. From wine flights and lunch service to private functions and Wine Club, you'll play a key role in creating memorable guest experiences while helping drive the success of the business.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll be out on the floor hosting guests, leading the team and ensuring every service runs smoothly. Rosters, planning and administration are all part of the role, but hospitality always comes first.
The Opportunity
No two days are the same.
One day you'll be hosting wine flights, the next coordinating a private function, leading lunch service, mentoring staff or helping grow our Wine Club.
You'll be the link between the Owner/Winemaker, Head Chef and front-of-house team, ensuring communication is clear, service is seamless and standards remain high.
You'll be trusted to make decisions, solve problems, improve systems and continually raise the standard across the venue.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Lead, coach and occasionally recruit a high-performing front-of-house team.
- Foster a positive, accountable team culture where people enjoy coming to work, support one another and take pride in what they do.
- Manage rosters, labour costs, staffing and team performance.
Venue Operations
- Oversee the smooth operation of the cellar door, kitchen, private functions and outdoor spaces.
- Ensure the venue is consistently presented to a high standard.
- Manage bookings, stock control, venue systems and opening and closing procedures.
- Continually improve systems, efficiency and the overall guest experience.
Service, Functions & Wine Club
- Host engaging wine flights that leave guests feeling connected to Main & Cherry.
- Coordinate private functions from the initial enquiry through to successful delivery, ensuring every detail is managed with care.
- Lead daily pre-service briefings so the team is prepared for bookings,
menu changes and dietary requirements.
- Communicate closely with the Head Chef throughout every service. Read the kitchen, not just the docket rail. Understand how service is tracking before releasing multiple food orders so food quality, timing and the guest experience are never compromised.
- Lead the front-of-house team during functions, maintaining seamless communication between the floor and kitchen to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
- Build genuine relationships with regular guests and Wine Club members while delivering an experience that turns first-time visitors into loyal returning guests.
- Oversee the day-to-day administration of our Wine Club while helping grow membership through genuine guest relationships and thoughtful guest engagement.
- Assist with packing Wine Club and online wine orders, ensuring every order is packed accurately, presented beautifully and dispatched on time.
- Maintain the highest standards of RSA compliance, food safety and workplace health and safety.
About You
You'll thrive in this role if you:
- Enjoy leading from the front.
- Stay calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
- Take ownership and solve problems before they become bigger ones.
- Build genuine relationships with guests and your team.
- Take pride in getting the little things right.
You're someone who notices the details. You don't walk past a problem, you communicate well and you're always looking for ways to improve the guest experience.
A sound knowledge of wine is preferred, but you don't need to be a sommelier. If you enjoy talking about wine and are keen to learn, we'll teach you our wines, our winemaking philosophy and how we like to host wine flights. We're much more interested in finding an exceptional leader, communicator and host than someone with every wine qualification.
You'll also bring:
- At least 2 years' experience in a leadership or management role within a busy hospitality venue, restaurant, cellar door or similar operation.
- Strong people leadership, coaching and communication skills.
- Experience coordinating busy services and private functions.
- Confidence working collaboratively alongside kitchen teams.
- Confidence representing Main & Cherry as a passionate and knowledgeable brand ambassador through wine flights, functions and exceptional hospitality.
- Commercial awareness, including labour costs, rostering and stock control.
- A reasonable level of fitness. This is a hands-on role that involves being on your feet for most of the day, safely unloading and storing a weekly pallet delivery, and helping wherever needed.
- Current RSA.
- Approved Responsible Person's Licence (or willingness to obtain).
How We Work
You'll work directly with the Owner/Winemaker and be trusted to make decisions.
We value initiative, accountability and common sense. If something isn't right, don't walk past it. Take ownership, fix it or make sure it gets fixed.
Hospitality throws up challenges every day. We don't expect you to have every answer, but we do expect you to think things through and bring solutions, not just problems.
Working Hours
This is a full-time position working five days per week, Thursday to Monday.
Main & Cherry is closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
Weekend availability is essential, as Saturdays and Sundays are our busiest trading days.
General rostered hours are 9:00am–6:00pm, with some flexibility required for private functions and special events.
Why Join Main & Cherry?
You'll work directly with the Owner/Winemaker and have genuine influence over how the venue operates. Your ideas will be heard, you'll be trusted to make decisions and you'll have the chance to build a team and culture you're proud of.
We're building the business for the long term and looking for someone who wants to grow with us, not simply fill a position.
If you're looking for a venue management role where your ideas matter, your leadership is valued and you can genuinely help shape the future of a growing wine business, we'd love to hear from you.
