Job Description
Technical Skills:
Candidates are expected to possess the following technical skills, including but not limited to:
- Experience with the VMware SDDC stack for a minimum of 3 years and ability to demonstrate:
- Experience with vSphere
- Experience with VMware vSAN and software-defined storage solutions
- Strong understanding of virtualisation and cloud concepts, processes and standards, including virtual data centres, vMotion, and dynamic resource scheduling (DRS)
- Experience with enterprise data storage technologies including NAS (IP-based), SAN (Fibre Channel-based), and converged storage solutions (e.g., vSAN)
- Experience with VMware Aria (formerly vRealize) suite or equivalent, including:
- Aria Automation (vRealize Automation)
- Aria Operations (vRealize Operations Manager)
- Aria Operations for Logs (Log Insight)
- Aria Orchestrator
- Site Recovery Manager (SRM) or equivalent DR orchestration tools
- Proven experience in implementing complex business solutions hosted on infrastructure and/or cloud platforms, including the ability to develop and complete:
- Technical and security requirements
- Test planning and validation considerations
- Operational readiness considerations
- System constraints and performance requirements
- Experience with systems backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery, including modern approaches such as replication, failover, and cyber resilience practices
- Experience with identity and access management, including central authentication technologies such as LDAP, Active Directory, and/or Entra ID (Azure AD), with an understanding of security best practices
- Knowledge of network protocols and core infrastructure services, including DNS, SMTP, NTP, SNMP, and general network communication principles
- Demonstrated understanding of ITIL service management practices, particularly incident, problem, and change management within an enterprise environment
- Experience with systems monitoring and management concepts, processes, and tools, including SNMP, syslog, and modern observability or logging platforms
- Experience in systems capacity, performance monitoring, and optimisation,
including proactive tuning and resource management to ensure system efficiency and reliability
- Desirable: exposure to cloud platforms and automation, including Microsoft Azure and/or AWS, scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python), and infrastructure-as-code or automation tooling
- Desirable: Experience in administering BAE Cross Domain Solution
- Desirable: Experience supporting highly secure or classified government environments.
Requirements
Key duties and responsibilities
The Services, delivered in collaboration with and under supervision by nominated personnel, include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Administer and maintain enterprise ICT systems and infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security across production and non-production environments.
- Monitor, investigate, and resolve complex technical incidents and system issues, applying advanced troubleshooting skills to minimise disruption and ensure continuity of services.
- Implement and manage system configurations, patches, and upgrades, ensuring alignment with organisational standards, security controls, and change management processes.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including technical procedures, configurations, and operational support guides, ensuring accuracy and compliance with organisational requirements.
- Support the integration and continuous improvement of ICT systems, working with stakeholders and technical teams to optimise system functionality, performance, and user outcomes.
- Foster a high-performing, cooperative team environment, supporting capability development and organisational outcomes.
- Drive knowledge sharing and capability uplift across teams to strengthen organisational maturity.
- Ensure compliance with clients requirements through robust record management and oversight of project documentation and information.
Technical skills
Min.
3 years’ experience with VMware SDDC, including vSphere, vSAN, Aria/vRealize suite, virtualisation, cloud concepts, storage (NAS, SAN, converged), & DR solutions.
Proven ability to deliver complex infrastructure/cloud solutions covering security, testing, performance & operational readiness.
Experience with backup, recovery, HA, IAM (AD, LDAP, Entra ID), networking (DNS, SMTP, NTP, SNMP), ITIL, monitoring, capacity optimisation.
Desirable: Azure/AWS, automation, BAE CDS, secure environments
Requirements
Key duties and responsibilities We are seeking a Senior Storage Engineer who has experience working in large complex ICT environments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for deploying, configuring, managing and tuning the department’s storage systems at physical and virtual layers.
The Senior Storage Engineer will also be responsible to deploy, configure and manage Storage Area Network Switches as required.
The successful candidate should have knowledge of new and emerging technologies to shape the future direction of the department’s storage and data platforms.
The role requires producing design documents, build documents, operations document, handover and sharing of knowledge with other team members and mentoring junior team members.
Essential criteria 1.Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the design, administration, tuning and troubleshooting of one or more of the following storage systems: • HPE 3PAR, Primera, Alletra Storage Systems • NetApp E-Series • Dell Data Domain • Brocade Fabric Switches • SANnav • Scality Artesca 2.Ability to produce design, build and operations documents for processes and procedures.
3.Excellent communication (verbal and written) and collaboration skills to work with skilled technical people, including making presentations to staff and stakeholders and coaching staff.
4.Experience / Knowledge of following technology: • Veeam Backup and Replication
