General Manager - Strategy, Partnerships & Operations

Help shape the future of a respected animal care and veterinary training provider

AVT is a well-established, values-driven training organisation with a strong reputation, a passionate team and a genuine commitment to quality outcomes for students, industry and the animals we all care about.

As we enter an important period of organisational growth, we are seeking an experienced and capable General Manager to work alongside our Directors and Programs & Training Director to help shape what comes next.

This is a unique chance that combines strategic thinking, operational leadership, partnership development and organisational overthought.

We’re looking for someone who can see the bigger picture while remaining engaged in the practical work required to bring ideas to life. Someone who can identify opportunities, solve complex problems, build strong relationships support organisational decision making and leading initiatives from concept through to implementation.

Success in this role requires sound commercial judgement, strong leadership capability, a commitment to quality and compliance, and the ability to balance strategic priorities with day to day organisational needs.

Whether you’re developing a new partnership, assessing business performance, guiding managers through complex challenges, enhancing compliance and systems, or contributing to AVT’s future direction, you will bring sound judgement, practical solutions and a collaborative mindset.

About the role





Working closely with the Board and the Programs & Training Director, you will:

- Help shape and implement AVT’s future direction

- Lead strategic projects and organisational initiatives

- Identify, evaluate and progress new partnership, product and business opportunities

- Actively build and strengthen relationships across industry, education and community sectors

- Support organisational decision-making and problem-solving

- Oversee business performance, operational effectiveness and organisational sustainability

- Provide leadership, guidance and support to key managers and teams

- Help build leadership capability and organisational resilience for the future

This is a role for someone who enjoys both thinking and doing.

You’ll contribute ideas, undertake research, engage stakeholders, evaluate opportunities, solve problems and help drive implementation. You won’t simply oversee projects, you’ll play an active role in moving them forward.

About you

You may come from a VET, education, training, commercial, service-based, health, not-for-profit or related leadership background.

More important than your industry background is your ability to:

- Support quality, compliance and continuous improvement

You are naturally curious, comfortable working with ambiguity and capable of making decisions when there is no obvious or perfect answer.

When presented with a new challenge, your instinct is to understand the situation before acting. You ask thoughtful questions, consider different perspectives, evaluate risks and opportunities, and work collaboratively to identify practical solutions

Most importantly, you enjoy helping organisations become stronger, more sustainable and better equipped for the future while preserving the culture and values that make them successful.

Required skills and experience

- Experience in RTO, VET, training organisations, senior leadership, business management, education management or similar environments

- Strong commercial awareness and confidence working with budgets, financial reports and business performance measures

- Demonstrated experience leading projects, partnerships or organisational initiatives from concept through to implementation

- Robust problem-solving skills and sound judgement in complex or ambiguous situations





- Ability to build productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Demonstrated ability to lead people with clarity, empathy and accountability

- Working knowledge of regulated environments, compliance frameworks or government-funded programs, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge

Highly regarded

- Experience within animal care, veterinary, health, not-for-profit or related sectors

- Experience developing partnerships, commercial agreements or new service offerings

- Experience leading organisational change or business transformation

- Relevant tertiary or vocational qualifications in management, business, education or leadership
