We are looking for a Head Chef to take ownership of a breakfast kitchen and help build something exciting.

We’re a busy cafe in the heart of Balaclava, located directly next to tram and train stops, with a strong customer base and a big opportunity for growth. We’re now looking for the right chef to lead a major kitchen transformation and update breakfast and brunch menu to something that stands out in the area.

This role is ideal for a breakfast chef who is creative, highly organised, fast under pressure and understands both the culinary and business side of running a successful cafe kitchen.

We are not looking for someone to simply run the current menu — we’re looking for someone who can help build a successful food program from the ground up.

What we’re looking for:

- Robust experience as a Head Chef or senior chef in a fast-paced cafe environment
- Ability to create exciting, profitable and efficient menu items
- Someone who understands current cafe trends and local market expectations
- Leadership and team management skills
- Solid organisation and communication
- Ability to manage ordering, prep systems, food costs and workflow
- Friendly, adaptable and positive personality

Responsibilities include:

- Designing and developing a new breakfast/brunch menu
- Running daily kitchen operations
- Managing kitchen staff
- Ordering and stock control
- Food costing and maintaining profitability
- Creating specials and seasonal ideas
- Maintaining consistency, speed and kitchen standards
- Training and leading the team
