Employment Type: Casual (38hrs a week, with potential for full-time permanent positions)

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled individual to join our Parks and Gardens team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining parklands, operating machinery, and supporting team development. You will ensure the safe and efficient management of park areas, while contributing to a positive and team-oriented team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

- Operate Park maintenance equipment (tractors, mowers, chainsaws, blowers, etc.).
- Carry out weed control (chemical and non-chemical) and general park maintenance (litter collection, planting).
- Record work completed and maintain equipment.
- Assist in training and supervising new staff, trainees, and volunteers.
- Follow health and safety protocols and contribute to safety improvements.
- Collaborate with internal teams, external agencies, and community groups.

· Maintain open space assets including mowing, litter collection, planting, herbicide application, weeding, mulching, pruning and minor landscaping and structure repair.

· Select and operate appropriate equipment and machinery for designated tasks, in the most productive manner according to agreed work practices.

· Ability to apply general landscape, parkland and construction maintenance principles and a general awareness of fixed asset and structure repair and maintenance.

· General knowledge of native and exotic plants, environmental weeds and their management





· Ability to select appropriate equipment and techniques employed in parks maintenance and to operate, maintain and adjust plant and equipment correctly.

Requirements:

- Experience operating park maintenance machinery (zero-turn and out-front mowers).
- Knowledge of horticultural practices and weed control methods.
- A valid Medium Rigid Licence and Working with Children Card.
- A current Police Check.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Commitment to safety and customer service.

The applicant must be able to carry out tasks including:

- Walking up to 4km at any one time
- Operating parks maintenance machinery – including but not limited to trucks, tractors, ride on mowers, utilities, trailers, small, motorised equipment
- Climbing on ladders to access large vehicles – Backhoe, Travel Tower

Ability to perform manual tasks including:

- Lifting bags of grass seed, fertiliser and other products required for open space maintenance 10-20kgs.
- Using manual tools – including but not limited to wheelbarrow, shovels, rakes, screeds
- Using small plant - Wacker plates, chainsaws, brush cutters, etc

Pay: $44.60 per hour
