Primary objective
To act as a regional liaison between schools, employers, Registered Training Organisations, and community stakeholders to identify,
establish, and sustain school-to-employment opportunities for secondary students.
Context statement
The Department of Education and Training (DET) oversees vocational programs across Government and non-Government
Northern Territory (NT) secondary schools,
including managing the distribution of Vocational Education and Training (VET) funding
and facilitating industry partnerships. Working alongside schools, this position engages with industry, employers and community
stakeholders to enable students to access post-school employment opportunities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local industry, schools, and RTOs. Ensuring effective
engagement and collaboration between parties to provide post-schooling opportunities to students.
2. Facilitate access to School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs), industry work placements, and full time
apprenticeships and traineeships, supporting the student through the sign-up process and facilitating stakeholder
collaboration.
3. Work collaboratively with school VET Coordinators, Career Advisors, and Senior Years staff to identify students suitable for
industry engagement
4. Promote employment and training opportunities for schools and assist with the set up and coordination of industry lead pre-
employment activities.
5. Promote industry-informed planning by supplying local information back into regional and the central agency for decision-
making.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with a proven ability to build and sustain strategic
partnerships across a broad and complex network of stakeholders, including students, families, employers, registered training
organisations, school leadership teams and community stakeholders.
2. Demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate, and collaborate to achieve positive outcomes in diverse and dynamic contexts.
3. Knowledge of the VET sector, including detailed understanding of school-based apprenticeships, traineeships, and post-school
pathways.
4. Proven ability to understand local workforce needs and use that knowledge to create training and employment pathways that
match industry demand and government priorities, including contributing to the design or improvement of programs and
policies.
5. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, engage effectively with diverse
cohorts, and communicate clearly with a range of audiences. Proven ability to prepare high-quality written documents and
collaborate with others in a respectful and inclusive way.
Desirable
1. A Certificate IV in Career Development or Graduate Certificate in Career Development.

1. Current NT Working with Children Clearance Notice (Ochre Card) and driver’s license. This position will require regional and
remote travel by off-road vehicle and/or small plane.
