Join our supportive, friendly team as a BICON Content Author to contribute towards strengthening our national biosecurity system. We're looking for someone with a high level of attention to detail, who shows initiative and has a personal drive to deliver high quality work.

Why YOU are important to us and what impact will you have on the Biosecurity Plant and Science Services Division and the departments’ goal.

We protect Australia’s plant health to support trade, the economy, and the environment. Our division provides scientific advice, diagnostics, biosecurity training, and risk assessments. We enable safe plant imports, strengthen systems, and engage stakeholders. Surveillance and response are conducted at national entry points and approved sites, including northern Australia. We work closely with communities and Indigenous rangers to manage biosecurity risks, including in the Torres Strait.

Our branch ensures Australian plant products can reach global markets by developing access strategies and working closely with stakeholders. We connect across government and industry, support effective engagement, and manage the vital Biosecurity Import Conditions (BICON) database so trade runs smoothly and risks stay low.

As a BICON Content Author, you will contribute towards ensuring Australia's people, environment and economy are protected through quality authoring of changes required to the biosecurity import conditions and food safety requirements in BICON. These conditions address risks pre-border and at-border,



providing support for a multitude of stakeholders.

This is where you play an important role.

As a BICON Content Author, you will:

- work within a collaborative team environment.
- work with business content and import programs to understand and construct decision tree structures in the BICON system, in accordance with system rules and authoring conventions.
- implement changes to import and permit conditions in alignment with service standards while complying with system rules and authoring conventions.
- provide technical advice through various formats on the most appropriate means of authoring content in BICON to achieve import program and stakeholder objectives.
- perform administrative tasks including system reporting, data analysis and basic scoping tasks for the team’s work program.
- contribute to projects to progress continuous content improvement initiatives.
- contribute to the development and maintenance of authoring conventions and training materials.
- clearly document and report system issues.
- develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- use workflow management tools to maintain detailed records of changes and key decisions.
- prepare for, participate in and chair meetings as required.





Please note that the merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.
