Job Overview:

The Remote Pilot is responsible for the safe, compliant, and effective operation of Zena Drone's RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) fleet on client project sites across Australia. The role covers a range of DaaS applications including construction and land survey mapping, LiDAR/SLAM data capture, agricultural monitoring, and infrastructure inspection, and requires strict adherence to CASA regulations, Zena Drone Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and client site safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

- Plan and execute RPAS flight operations in accordance with CASA regulations, Zena Drone SOPs, and approved Operations Manual procedures.
- Conduct pre-flight risk assessments, site surveys, and airspace checks (including NOTAMs and controlled airspace authorisations where applicable).
- Operate DJI Matrice 350/400 RTK platforms with Zenmuse L2 (LiDAR) and H30T (thermal/zoom) payloads, and other approved Zena Drone equipment, to capture survey-grade data.
- Support ground control point (GCP) placement and GNSS/RTK base station setup using equipment such as the Emlid Reach RS2.
- Deliver flight operations for construction survey, land survey, agricultural, and inspection use cases in line with client scope and DaaS project workflows.
- Maintain accurate flight logs, maintenance records, and incident/near-miss reporting in accordance with CASA record-keeping requirements.




- Conduct routine equipment inspections, battery management (including lithium battery handling and storage protocols), and first-line maintenance.
- Liaise with the Drone Operations Manager (DOM), Land Survey Operations Manager (LSOM) where relevant, and client site representatives to ensure operational and safety alignment.
- Comply with site-specific health and safety (H&S;) requirements, including construction site inductions, PPE standards, and traffic management plans.
- Support data handoff to processing teams, ensuring captured data meets project accuracy and completeness requirements.
- Participate in ongoing training, proficiency checks, and currency requirements to maintain CASA remote pilot licence (RePL) validity.

Required Qualifications:

- Current CASA Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) with an appropriate category/type rating for multi-rotor RPAS operations.
- Demonstrated experience operating RPAS in a commercial context (construction, survey, agriculture, or inspection preferred).
- Working knowledge of CASA Part 101 regulations, RPAS operating limitations, and controlled airspace procedures.
- Experience operating enterprise-grade RPAS platforms (e.g. DJI Matrice series) and associated payloads (LiDAR, RGB, thermal).
- Valid Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites across the relevant state/territory (and interstate as required).
- Strong understanding of flight safety, risk assessment, and site-based H&S; practices.




- Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining clear communication with remote operations and client teams.
- Physically able to carry and set up field equipment, and to work outdoors in varied weather and site conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Existing ReOC (Remote Operator's Certificate) association or experience operating under a company ReOC
- Experience with LiDAR/SLAM data capture and an understanding of survey-grade GNSS/RTK workflows.
- Prior experience in construction, land surveying, precision agriculture, or utility/infrastructure inspection sectors.
- General Construction Induction (White Card) or equivalent state-based site safety certification.
- Familiarity with GDA2020 datum and Australian survey/mapping conventions.
- First Aid certification.

Regulatory and Compliance Framework:

This role operates under the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulatory framework governing RPAS operations in Australia, including CASA Part 101 (Unmanned Aircraft and Rockets) and any applicable ReOC conditions. The successful candidate will be expected to operate strictly within Zena Drone's Operations Manual, maintain licence currency, and complete all mandatory recurrent training as required by CASA and Zena Drone internal policy.
