Casual Correctional Officer - Queanbeyan Court Cluster

Location – Queanbeyan, NSW, 2620.
About the role
Officers contribute to community safety and assist offenders in finding paths for improvement in their lives. They supervise inmates in correctional facilities, including prisons and court cells throughout New South Wales, interacting with inmates and ensuring the safety and security of the facility through searches, monitoring behaviours, and effective communication.
What will you do?
- Carry out daily tasks and duties following legislation, CSNSW and DCJ policies and procedures to ensure the safety, well‑being, security and rehabilitation of inmates.
- Perform daily accountability routines including muster, head checks and ongoing observation of offenders.
- Conduct searches and other detection activities to find and remove contraband from the facility or court complex, and monitor offenders to boost security and safety for everyone.
- Manage inmates’ requests for services or escalate them as needed.
- Supervise offender activities in designated work, living or approved zones, ensuring everything runs in accordance with principles of fairness, equity and secure practice.

Requirements
- Minimum age 18 years.
- Current MR – Medium Rigid driver’s licence or willingness to obtain an MR licence within 3 months from appointment.
- Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
- Willingness to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practice.
- Meet the medical standards to be a correctional officer and have a reasonable level of fitness.
- Provide details of visible body art or modifications on the face, scalp, ears, neck or hands, including tattoos or modifications of an offensive nature as per policy.
