Summary
Our client, Baaz Truck & Trailer Repairs, is seeking to add a Diesel Motor Mechanic to its experienced team in Dandenong. The business provides reliable truck and trailer servicing, diagnostics and repairs using modern equipment and quality replacement parts. This position will support the safe, effective and timely maintenance of heavy vehicles while upholding the company’s commitment to workmanship, customer satisfaction and dependable fleet support.
The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in diesel engines, trucks, trailers and related vehicle systems.
• Inspect, test and repair diesel engines and associated heavy vehicle mechanical components.
• Dismantle and remove engines, transmissions, steering mechanisms, suspension systems and other assemblies.
• Repair or replace worn, damaged and defective engine and vehicle components.
• Reassemble diesel engines and mechanical parts following repairs and component replacement.
• Perform scheduled servicing, including oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups and safety inspections.
• Test and adjust repaired components to confirm safe, reliable and efficient performance.
• Use computerised diagnostic equipment to identify faults and assess vehicle operating conditions.
• Repair and maintain braking, steering, suspension, transmission and driveline systems.
• Interpret technical manuals, manufacturer specifications and diagnostic reports when completing repairs.
• Inspect vehicles and identify work required to achieve safe and roadworthy operating standards.
• Respond to truck or trailer breakdowns and complete repairs where operationally required.
• Maintain accurate service records detailing inspections, repairs, parts and maintenance completed.
• Keep tools, diagnostic equipment and workshop areas clean, organised and safely maintained.
• Communicate repair findings, estimated requirements and vehicle condition clearly to supervisors and customers.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:
• Relevant AQF Certificate III or Certificate IV qualification in automotive mechanical technology or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• At least three years of relevant diesel mechanical experience may substitute for the required formal qualification.
• Demonstrated experience diagnosing, servicing and repairing diesel engines fitted to trucks or other heavy vehicles.
• Strong knowledge of transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension, driveline components and heavy vehicle mechanical systems.
• Proven ability to use computerised diagnostic equipment, technical manuals and manufacturer specifications accurately.
• Ability to complete scheduled servicing and complex mechanical repairs safely, efficiently and to required standards.
• Strong fault-finding, problem-solving and organisational skills with careful attention to workmanship and vehicle safety.
• Valid Australian driver licence and any required registration, licensing or workplace safety credentials for the position.
