About the role

Upon successfully completing the training course, you’ll begin your role as a transit officer, playing a vital part in safeguarding our rail network, combining law enforcement responsibilities with a commitment to passenger safety and security. This is a demanding role, but also highly rewarding. You’ll join a large dynamic team working across the metropolitan network, helping to protect passengers, uphold community safety, while contributing to the successful journeys of our passengers.

Please Note: As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a series of assessments. These assessments are designed to ensure candidates meet the necessary competencies for the role. Further details will be provided to those who advance in the recruitment process.

There are several stages of the trainee transit officer recruitment process, and you must be available to attend each stage in person as detailed below:

- Aptitude assessments (online)
- Physical testing (must attend in person)
- Assessment Centre (must attend in person)
- Psychometric assessments and pre-employment medical

Trainee transit officer aptitude assessment results are valid for 24 months. If unsuccessful, candidates are eligible to reapply after this period.

This is a pool recruitment process where suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made for this or similar positions. Initially this selection process will be used as vacancies arise, but it may also be used to appoint to similar positions in the agency on a permanent basis.

To be eligible to work at the PTA you must be either an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.

Important information

All applicants will be required to complete the PTA Integrity and Qualification Consent Form. Applicants who progress beyond the aptitude testing stage must also successfully undergo an integrity clearance before being invited to an assessment centre.

If recommended for appointment, applicants will be required to obtain an Australian National Police Clearance and successfully complete a comprehensive pre-employment medical assessment, including a Drug and Alcohol Screen.

Adverse findings arising from integrity clearances or National Police Clearances will not automatically exclude an applicant from the recruitment process, with each matter assessed on its individual merits. All PTA positions are also subject to ongoing integrity screening requirements.
