BAR Health and Hygiene is a Perth-based occupational hygiene consultancy working across mining, oil & gas and construction throughout Western Australia. We place experienced hygienists into site-based roles and back them with a technical team behind the scenes.
The Prospect
We're recruiting an Occupational Hygiene Advisor for a leading Western Australian mining operation. This is a site-based occupational hygiene role within an established HSET team, reporting to the Senior Advisor - Occupational Hygiene and the HSET Superintendents.
How it works
You're employed by BAR and placed with the client for an initial six months. At the end of that period there is potential for a permanent position with the client. If that doesn't eventuate, you come back to the BAR team - you won't be left looking for your next role. Either way you keep one employer and continuity of employment.
Shortlisting is underway and the start date is as soon as possible for the right person.
The Role
Your work will cover:
Identifying and managing on-site health risks under the site's Health and Hygiene Management Plan
Running exposure assessments and interpreting monitoring data to characterise hazards and health risk
Verifying critical controls for the site's principal health hazards: silica, diesel particulate matter, noise and hazardous substances
Leading investigations where monitoring results exceed occupational exposure limits
Fit testing for respiratory and hearing protection
Potable water safety monitoring and follow-up of related incident reports
Contributing to the review and rollout of site management plans covering hearing conservation, respiratory protection and potable water
Checking that existing health controls are doing what they're meant to
Working day-to-day with the site's ventilation engineers, environmental scientists and medical team
Liaising with site teams and external stakeholders, including the regulator
The role is eligible for statutory appointment, so your LGIRS approvals will be put to work, not just sighted at induction.
The Roster
15 days on, 13 days off - close to even time, with nearly a fortnight at home each swing. Flights and accommodation are covered.
What We Offer
$120,000 per annum plus benefits
Flights and accommodation covered
A 15/13 roster with real time off between swings
Six months with the client, with potential to convert to a permanent role
A role to come back to with BAR if permanency doesn't eventuate
Statutory-level hygiene work at an established WA mining operation
A multidisciplinary team around you - ventilation, environmental and medical
Exposure to the full range of mining health risks rather than a narrow sampling round
What We're Looking For
Tertiary qualification in Occupational Hygiene (or working towards one)
LGIRS-approved Noise Officer
LGIRS-approved Mine Air Quality Technician (MAQT)
LGIRS-approved Mine Air Quality Officer (MAQO)
Working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA) and the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 (WA)
Proven experience implementing, executing and supporting site hygiene programs
Understanding of occupational hygiene practice across a range of health risks
Current C class manual driver's licence
