The Opportunity, Where You Come In:
We are seeking a Senior Waste Consultant to join our Strategy & Circular Economy team. This is a permanent full-time opportunity based in our Brisbane Office and offering the chance to collaborate with some of the most respected consultants in the waste, resource recovery and circular industry while contributing to the growth and reputation of Talis in Queensland.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the development of Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Strategies for government and private sector clients;
- Prepare Strategic Waste Management Plans that support sustainable and cost-effective waste service outcomes;
- Conduct Local Government Waste Service Reviews, including service assessments, benchmarking, and recommendations for improvement;
- Undertake FOGO feasibility assessments and develop implementation and transition plans;
- Prepare and manage tender documentation and procurement processes for waste management services, including collection, treatment, and Waste Supply Agreements;
- Deliver feasibility studies, business cases, and financial assessments for waste and resource recovery projects and infrastructure;
- Identify funding opportunities and prepare grant and funding applications;
- Develop Waste Awareness and Education Strategies to support community engagement and behaviour change initiatives;
- Manage projects from inception to completion, including scope, budget, schedule, stakeholder engagement, and quality delivery;
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and provide trusted strategic advice on waste management and circular economy initiatives;
- Lead and contribute to business development, proposal writing, and marketing activities to secure recent clients and project opportunities for Talis;
- Provide leadership, technical guidance, and mentorship to team members, supporting their professional development and growth; and
- Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, and best practice across the waste, resource recovery, and circular economy sectors.
What we are looking for:
You'd be a great fit if you bring:
- Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability Degree or similar;
- Extensive experience (5-15 years) in Waste, Resource Recovery and/or the Circular Economy (Consultancy, Local or State Government or Private Sector);
- In-depth knowledge of local government processes and waste management services;
- Strong desire to achieve sustainable waste management outcomes;
- Advanced project management, communication,
reporting and excel skills;
- Experience in identifying and securing business development opportunities;
- Experience leading a team is a bonus;
- Business Development skills/experience (marketing, tendering, etc); and
- Project Management experience is essential.
