- 12-month contract
- 4 days on / 3 days off roster (4/3), 12-hour shifts
- FIFO from Darwin or Cairns to Groote Eylandt (NT)
About the Client
Our client operates a large-scale manganese mining operation, producing and exporting high-grade ore while supporting global steel supply and regional communities through safe and sustainable practices.
About the Role
Reporting to the site environmental and operations team, you will carry out autonomous field-based activities to support operational and environmental compliance across GEMCO. You will be responsible for conducting water and environmental monitoring, sample collection, basic equipment maintenance, and supporting site inspections and reporting. This role requires confidence working independently in remote mining environments, using field technology and adhering to strict safety and operational procedures.
About You
You will be a proactive, reliable, and safety-focused professional with strong field capability and a practical, trade-based background.
You should be comfortable working autonomously, managing your own schedule, and using technology in the field. Ideal candidate would show initiative to undertake minor repairs and maintenance of field equipment and sensors and solar systems in field
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct water monitoring, sampling, and field testing activities
- Collect, label, and dispatch environmental samples to laboratories
- Operate and maintain monitoring equipment and field sensors
- Complete basic maintenance of solar-powered monitoring systems
- Undertake site inspections and environmental compliance activities
- Use drone technology for data capture and site assessments
- Maintain accurate field records and compliance documentation
- Support environmental reporting and continuous improvement initiatives
- Work safely and independently across remote operational areas
Skills and Experience Required
- Trade qualification or equivalent practical experience
- Ability to work independently and manage field activities autonomously
- Strong commitment to safety and operational compliance
- Current C Class Driver's Licence (manual preferred)
- Physically capable of working in remote field environments
- Experience in water monitoring, sampling, or environmental field work (highly regarded)
- Background in maintenance, inspections, or practical field-based roles
- Experience working on mine sites or within remote operations
- Basic computer and data entry skills for field reporting
- Experience operating drones or willingness to undertake training
- Experience in surveying, GIS, or geospatial data collection (desirable)
- First Aid certification or willingness to obtain (desirable)
