Position: Roofer Tiler

Salary: $79,499 per year excluding superannuation

Roof and Building Service is looking for an experienced Roof Tiler to join their team. The ideal candidate will have experience in roof tiling and torch-on waterproofing and will undertake the following duties/tasks:

1.Review construction drawings, specifications, and site requirements to determine the appropriate roofing materials, quantities, and installation methods.

2.Erect and dismantle ladders, scaffolding, and other access equipment in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.

3.Install and secure waterproof membranes and sarking over roof structures and eaves to provide weather protection.

4.Lay and fasten roofing underlay using nails, staples, or other approved fixing methods to prepare the roof for installation.

5.Position and align the initial rows of roofing materials to ensure correct spacing, alignment, and overlap before securing them with appropriate fasteners.

6.Measure, mark, and cut roofing materials to fit accurately around roof penetrations, chimneys, vents, valleys, corners, and ridge lines.

7.Install and secure ridge capping, hip tiles, and edge tiles using cement mortar or other approved fixing systems to ensure a durable, weatherproof finish.

8.Fit roofing materials beneath prefabricated flashing and securely fix them to the roof structure to prevent water penetration.

9.Apply sealants, flashing, and waterproofing compounds around exposed fasteners, joints, and roof penetrations to minimise the risk of leaks and maintain the integrity of the roofing system.

Inspect and prepare roof decks and other substrates for torch-on waterproofing, including cleaning and drying surfaces, repairing defects, and applying primers in accordance with product and project requirements.

11. Measure, cut, position, and install torch-on bituminous waterproofing membranes, including base and cap sheets, using approved gas torch application methods and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and safe work procedures.

12. Form and seal membrane laps, joints, corners, upstands, penetrations, outlets, flashings, and terminations to provide a continuous and watertight waterproofing system.

13. Set up and carry out torch-on waterproofing as hot work, including the safe use of gas torches and LPG equipment, compliance with permit requirements, fire prevention controls, and post-work fire monitoring.

14. Inspect completed waterproofing work for adhesion, coverage, and defects, and repair blisters, voids, damaged areas, or other faults before completion.

15. Provide practical, on-the-job training, instruction, and demonstrations to apprentices, trades assistants, and other employees in roof tiling, torch-on waterproofing, the safe use of tools and equipment, manufacturer requirements, and company work methods.

16. Monitor work completed by employees receiving training, provide practical feedback, correct unsafe or substandard practices, and confirm that required work methods and quality standards are understood and followed.

Requirements:

At least 3 years of work experience or a

Certificate III with 2 years of work experience or

Certificate IV (AQF standard)
