At Lyn Beazley Academy (LBA), we are passionate about creating transformational learning experiences through our Alternative Education Enhancement Program. LBA works with autistic youth through an alternative curriculum to build pathways into tertiary education, vocational learning, and employment, in a supportive, inclusive, and empowering small group environment.

Every student belongs to a small learning community called a PoD (People of Diversity). More than a class, a PoD is where students build trusting relationships, discover their strengths and learn to contribute to the world around them.

We are seeking an exceptional educator to become the PoD Teacher for one of these communities – far more than a classroom teaching position, it's an opportunity to become the trusted educator who helps young people grow academically, socially and personally over several years.

About the Role

As the PoD Teacher, you bring together learning, wellbeing and relationships within your PoD – working alongside a dedicated Social Emotional Transition (SET) Coach and Special Needs Education Assistant (SNEA) to create a protected, structured environment where students build independence, confidence and agency.

You will design and facilitate interdisciplinary Project-Based Learning, deliver explicit teaching in Mathematics, Science and English, and lead our wellbeing curriculum – including Self-Awareness and Regulation and the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum – developing the General Capabilities students need for life beyond school.





Learning regularly extends beyond the classroom, through partnerships with universities, community organisations and industry that connect students' learning to authentic experiences and future pathways.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and Deliver PBL Curriculum: Plan and facilitate interdisciplinary, STEAM-focused Project-Based Learning aligned to LBA's educational philosophy and each student's needs.

- Lead Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Develop, implement and review each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP), also known as a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP), in partnership with students, families and the multidisciplinary team – you are the plan's owner.

- Contribute to Curriculum Development: Take part in the ongoing development of the Academy's curriculum and educational practice.

- Build a Positive Learning Community: Create an inclusive PoD where every student experiences belonging, connection and high expectations.

- Guide Team Practice: Lead your SET Coach and SNEA in shared classroom routines, regulation strategies and day-to-day support.

- Deliver Wellbeing Curriculum: Teach evidence-informed wellbeing programs, including Self-Awareness and Regulation and the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum.

- Assess and Monitor Progress: Use a range of formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor progress and inform future learning.

- Facilitate Community & Industry Learning: Connect curriculum to authentic contexts through partnerships with the community, universities and industry.

- Partner with Families: Build strong partnerships with families, recognising parents and carers as valued partners in learning.

- Contribute to Curriculum Development: Take part in the ongoing development of the Academy's curriculum and educational practice.

Essential Criteria

- Recognised teaching qualification (Bachelor's degree in Education or related field) and eligibility for teacher registration in Western Australia

- Experience designing and delivering Project-Based Learning or inquiry-based learning across an integrated curriculum

- Strong understanding of explicit teaching, evidence-informed practice and individualised learning plans (IEPs/PLPs)

- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with a genuine capacity to work within a multidisciplinary team

- Commitment to inclusive, neuro-affirming practice

Desirable

Experience or knowledge in any of the following would be highly regarded:

- Several years' experience working with autistic or neurodivergent young people, in education, support or community-based settings

- Teaching the Keeping Protected: Child Protection Curriculum

- Trauma-informed practice and Positive Behaviour Support

- Multi-age or vertically streamed learning environments

All Teachers Must

- Hold or obtain a National Criminal Record Clearance (issued within the last 12 months)

- Hold or obtain a valid Working with Children Check

- Undertake all role-specific training as required by Lyn Beazley Academy policies
