ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an opportunity to join the executive leadership team of one of Australia’s leading private higher education providers, partnering closely with the Vice President (Academic) to shape the future of learning and teaching across the institute.
Reporting to the Vice President (Academic), the Director Learning & Teaching will provide strategic leadership across Academic Services, working closely with Heads of School, Program Leaders and senior stakeholders to drive academic excellence, curriculum innovation, governance and regulatory compliance. You will influence learning and teaching strategy while overseeing academic operations across online, hybrid and on-campus delivery.
This is a leadership role first and foremost. While academic credibility and regulatory expertise are essential, success in this role will come from your ability to engage people, build relationships, coach leaders and create a high-performing Academic Services function. You will bring a visible, collaborative leadership style, influence through relationships and create an environment where people feel supported, accountable and motivated to deliver exceptional outcomes for students.
DUTIES
- Lead the implementation and monitoring of the Learning & Teaching Plan and associated KPIs
- Provide visible and collaborative leadership to the Academic Services team, building capability,
engagement and accountability
- Drive academic quality, governance and compliance across all learning and teaching activities
- Partner with Heads of School and Program Leaders to strengthen collaboration and enhance curriculum design and delivery
- Lead course development, reaccreditation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Oversee Academic Services operations, including examinations, timetabling, academic integrity and student support processes
- Mentor, coach and develop academic and professional staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and high performance
- Develop innovative learning strategies across online, hybrid and face-to-face delivery
- Monitor student learning outcomes and implement initiatives to improve engagement and experience
- Support and contribute to Academic Board, Learning & Teaching Committee and Course Advisory Boards
- Act as deputy to the Vice President (Academic) when required
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Doctorate qualification in a relevant discipline
- Significant leadership experience within Australian higher education
- Strong understanding of TEQSA, HESF, AQF and broader higher education compliance frameworks
- Proven experience leading learning and teaching strategy, quality assurance and curriculum innovation
- Demonstrated success leading, motivating and developing multidisciplinary academic and professional teams
- Strong track record of building collaborative relationships and influencing senior academic stakeholders
- Experience across online, hybrid and contemporary learning environments
- Strong analytical,
reporting and decision-making capabilities
- Exceptional communication, coaching and stakeholder engagement skills
- A visible, authentic and collaborative leadership style, with the ability to build trust, develop people and drive positive outcomes
