ULTRAPLAYERS GAME

Box Hill

Great game ideas are often easy to describe. Making them feel responsive, stable and satisfying is the harder part.

UltraPlayers is looking for a Game Programmer to turn distinctive concepts into polished gameplay systems for PC and console projects.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can move between prototyping and production—writing maintainable code, solving technical problems and working closely with designers, artists and producers.

ABOUT ULTRAPLAYERS

UltraPlayers is a Melbourne-based indie game publisher and game company working with a focused portfolio of distinctive PC and console projects across global and Asian markets.

We keep our teams and project slate focused, allowing each person to have a visible impact on the games they work on.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Prototype and implement gameplay mechanics, systems and features.

• Work closely with game designers, artists and producers to turn ideas into clear technical solutions.

• Build maintainable gameplay architecture, reusable components and development tools.

• Integrate systems such as UI, input, save data, progression, animation, audio and platform services.

• Evaluate technical feasibility, identify risks and help define realistic implementation scope.

• Debug, profile and optimise game performance across supported hardware.

• Support internal builds, QA fixes, release preparation and post-launch updates.

• Participate in code reviews, technical documentation and development process improvement.

• Take ownership of features from initial prototype through implementation, testing and release.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Professional game programming experience,

ideally including at least one commercially released game.

• Strong skilled experience with Unity and C#, or equivalent experience with Unreal Engine and C++.

• Solid programming fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, debugging and performance awareness.

• Experience implementing gameplay systems rather than only isolated scripts or prototypes.

• Familiarity with Git or another modern version-control workflow.

• Ability to communicate clearly with non-programming disciplines.

• Robust problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a small, collaborative team.

• Professional English communication skills.

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience shipping a PC or console game.

• Familiarity with Steamworks, platform SDKs or console development.

• Experience building editor tools or improving designer workflows.

• Experience with optimisation, procedural systems, AI, networking or backend integration.

• Experience working in an indie studio or on a small cross-functional team.

WHY JOIN US

You will work close to the game itself, not as one programmer completing isolated tickets inside a large production pipeline.

You will have the opportunity to influence how ideas become playable, own meaningful features and see your work move from prototype through to players.

HOW TO APPLY

Please send:

• Your CV.

• A portfolio, GitHub profile or code samples where available and permitted.

• A list of shipped or playable projects and your exact responsibilities on each.

• A brief description of one difficult technical problem you solved and how you approached it.
