Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. In Australia, Harmony owns the high-grade CSA copper mine in Cobar, NSW and is constructing the Eva Copper Mine in Cloncurry, QLD, with first production targeted for the second half of the 2028 calendar year. These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
Core delivery role within the PMO – Projects team.
Reporting to the Manager Projects – CSA, you'll work closely with Corporate and Operational Project Owners, Group Procurement, engineering consultants and site construction teams to ensure tailings and related infrastructure projects are designed and delivered safely, on budget and to schedule.
Permanent opportunity, based at the Australasia Services Office. 5 on / 2 off roster, Opportunity to WFH 2 to 3 days per week
Key responsibilities of this role include:
- Formally initiate every project via Project Charter, with a risk-based Forward Work and Execution Plans for every phase, with defined scope, schedule and budget etc (per HGM PEMS).
- Manage engineering and design consultants to scope, time and cost, escalating performance issues and upholding HGM PEMS requirements.
- Ensure facility designs meet appropriate standards, including Safety-in-Design and Pre-Construction Hazard Assessment reviews.
- Lead Value Engineering reviews to ensure designs are technically sound, safe and cost-effective.
- Develop risk-based contracting strategies with Group Procurement, covering market engagement, tender evaluation and contract formation / execution & management (performance-based contracts).
- Ensure field and site works are planned, resourced and communicated ahead of time with the Manager Construction incl. pre-constructability reviews and contractor mobilisation requirements are met prior to field works commencing.
- Track and report on Project progress (per HGM PEMS), maintaining up-to-date Change, Risk and Project Action Registers (one source).
- Lead or participate in Project Assurance and Safety-in-Design reviews and ensure formal Change Management is followed.
- Prepare Operational Readiness Strategies / Plans to transition each project into operations once constructed.
- Ensure formal Commissioning Planning and Management of Change (MOC) approvals are in place, and that incidents are managed through HGM Incident Management processes.
- Identify changes to construction and operational permits/licences, liaising with regulatory and community authorities as needed.
- Provide regular SLT project progress updates, lead EOM Project Review updates, and participate in VFSL and safety inspections.
- Lead project close-out reviews, including punchlist walk-downs and lessons learned.
- Act as a Safety Ambassador, driving a culture of zero harm and safe, quality outcomes.
About you:
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil/Structural); Project Management qualifications desirable.
- 10 -15 years' “hands-on” experience across Resources and/or Heavy Industries in Project Management / Engineering roles delivering end-to-end projects.
- Demonstrated experience with Mining / Process Plant and specifically TSF infrastructure, decant water systems, pumping and piping systems construction.
- Good understanding of key legislative requirements for tailings dams (Dam Safety, ANCOLD, GISTM) and experience working with SME’s / specialist contractors across Australia and PNG.
- Solid contract management, risk and change management capability, with a strategic, continuous-improvement mindset.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels incl. timely escalation of potential challenges / issues.
- Proficiency in MS Office, SharePoint, Teams; basic user knowledge of Pronto (ERP) or equivalent.
- Proven ability to coach and mentor direct reports or peers.
- Current 'C' Class driver's licence and willingness to travel to remote locations across NSW, QLD and PNG.
