About the Role

The Nurse Leader provides support to the Practice Manager to deliver the strategic and operational leadership of the nursing team across Ballarat Group Practice. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, safe and efficient clinical services,



supporting workforce capability, maintaining skilled standards and contributing to the achievement of organisational goals.

Key Outcome Areas

Clinical Leadership and Quality Care

Lead the delivery of safe, high quality and patient-centred nursing services across BGP and maintain a culture of professionalism and continuous improvement in the nursing team. The Nurse Leader ensures compliance with relevant legislation, professional standards, accreditation requirements and organisational policies while supporting risk management, incident management and quality assurance activities. The role actively contributes to organisational governance processes and promotes a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Nursing Workforce Leadership and Capability

Provide leadership, guidance and support to the nursing team to foster a positive, collaborative and high performing workplace culture. The Nurse Leader is responsible for supporting workforce planning, onboarding, supervision, performance development and professional growth opportunities for nursing staff.

Through coaching, mentoring and role modelling professional behaviours, the Nurse Leader builds capability and promotes accountability engagement and excellence.

Operational Excellence and Resource Management

Ensure the effective day to day operation of nursing services through the efficient management of workforce resources, equipment, clinical supplies and practice systems. The Nurse Leader contributes to service planning, implementation of organisational priorities and continuous improvement initiatives, while maintaining oversight of nursing workflows, clinical processes and resource utilisation.

This includes supporting compliance with organisational policies and ensuring services are delivered in a protected, sustainable and effective manner.

Patient Outcomes

Support the delivery of comprehensive and accessible health care services that improve patient outcomes and meet the needs of the community.





The Nurse Leader promotes activities such as chronic conditions management health assessments, immunisations programs, care planning and population health activities ensuring that BGP nursing services contribute to improved patient experience continuity of care and proactive management of health risks.

Strategic Leadership and Organisational Contribution

Contribute to the strategic direction and ongoing development of nursing services across BGP. The Nurse Leader works collaboratively with organisational leaders to identify opportunities for service improvement, support change initiatives, contribute to organisational planning and ensure nursing services remain responsive to practitioner and patient needs, workforce challenges and emerging healthcare priorities, The role actively promotes innovation, continuous improvement and alignment with organisational objectives.

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

- Demonstrated experience in a similar role and qualifications as a Registered Nurse Division 1 (AHPRA) with current unrestricted registration.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with patients, colleagues and external stakeholders in a skilled and respectful manner.

- Well-developed listening and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess needs and determine appropriate actions, escalation or referral pathways.

- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, contributing to a positive, collaborative workplace culture.

- Sound organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.

- Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, quality and continuous improvement in all aspects of work

- Digital literacy appropriate to the role including the use of clinical and administrative systems.

- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, support and develop staff, including delegation, performance guidance and fostering accountability.

Desirable

- Relevant leadership qualification (e.g. Certificate IV Leadership and Management)

- Previous experience in a general practice setting

- Familiarity with clinical software, patient management systems and accreditation standards
